Be proud of Scouts

To the Editor:

Marion County is helping girls develop real-life skills and the sense of citizenship needed to become tomorrow's leaders through Girl Scouting. Nationwide 10 percent of all girls are Girl Scouts, and yet 64 percent of successful women were once Girl Scouts.

You should be proud of your area girls and volunteers! Here in Marion County 18% of all girls are Girl Scouts — substantially higher than the national average. Nearly one in five girls in Marion County are learning values and setting goals, on the path to becoming tomorrow's women who "try to be honest and fair, considerate and caring," and believe in "on my honor."

Working to make their world a better place, Marion area girls recycle aluminum cans, send cards and care packages to soldiers stationed overseas, bring smiles to area hospital patients, and much more.

You, too, can help your community by giving to the United Way. Girl Scouts and other area agencies are dependent on your United Way contribution. Your support is needed and appreciated. Please give to the United Way in Marion County.
