Benefit tea features vintage wedding gowns

Seventy-six people attended St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary benefit tea Saturday afternoon at Marion Presbyterian Church hall.

President Judy Reno welcomed the group.

Claudia Allison gave the invocation. Traditional tea food included scones with lemon curd, tea sandwiches, and dessert.

A program featuring vintage wedding gowns was narrated by Janice Case. Gowns included one from 1887 and one as current as 2000.

Models were Whitney Wear, Lisa Buchholz, Amber Richmond, Alissa Vogel, Bettie Batt, Vicki Hoffer, Jill Hannaford, Chelsea Arnhold, Melissa Miles, and Elora Miles.

To set the mood, Rosie Plenert sang two traditional songs of the wedding gown era, "Memories" and "Always." Keith Allison accompanied her and provided background music for the style show.

Bettie Batt was the surprise of the show, modeling her own wedding gown from 1946.

Other brides and gowns or wedding ensembles and their years included great-grandmother of Anita Ware, 1887; Anetta Aby Beeman, 1895; Norma Hannaford, 1927; Florence Slocombe, 1928; Evelyn Mott, 1934; Sadie Bernhardt, 1938; Bula Good, 1939; Mary Costello, 1947; Jean McKellips, 1948; Janice Case, 1949; Evelyn Bredemeier, 1952; Jean Case, 1952; Claudia Allison, 1955; Mary Kay Classen, 1956; and Melissa Miles, 2000.
