Beneke receives athletic award from SW College

Jerod Beneke, Lincolnville, recently was nominated as one of Southwestern College's most outstanding male athletes.

He is a four-year letterman in football and three-year letterman in track, and has received numerous awards and recognitions.

One year, Beneke was awarded "most improved football student athlete." He was involved in football at SC for five years.

In 2003, he was the Fellowship of Christian Athletes football camp huddle leader.

He took third place in hammer throw at the 2004 KCAC conference meet and second place in 2005.

He also was involved in Kappa Sigma and tutored for three years at Webster Elementary School in Winfield.

"Jerod is the epitome of what a coach wants in a football player," said Chris Douglas, head football coach at SC. "He is intelligent, hard working, talented, and loyal, a leader and role model for others to look up to."

Beneke graduated in December with a degree in business management and accounting. After an internship at a Wal-Mart in Wichita, he now is assistant manager in the deli/meat department at Wal-Mart in McPherson.

A 2001 graduate of Centre High School, Beneke is the son of Corky and Kathy Bloom of Lincolnville.
