Bernhardt attends leadership conference in Washington, D.C.

Jessica Bernhardt, a student at Marion High School, took part in the July 2-9 Presidential Classroom Scholars Program in Washington, D.C.

More than 340 high school juniors and seniors from 48 states, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Guatemala explored the federal government at work. They spent a week discussing key political issues and observing the American political process on Capitol Hill.

The week featured seminars by former presidential candidate Ralph Nader, chairman of the Republican National Committee Ken Mehlman, and Andre Williams, supervisory special agent with the FBI.

Students also took part in various 4th of July celebration activities on the National Mall.

Bernhardt will be a senior at MHS and is the daughter of Dennis and Donna Bernhardt of Marion.
