Bid is approved for county lake brochure

A brochure bid for Marion County Park & Lake was approved Monday by Marion County Commission.

Park director Dale Snelling had received bids from the Marion County Record of Marion and Baker Brothers of Hillsboro for the printing of 8,000, 10,000, and 15,000 brochures.

It was determined 10,000 would be sufficient. The Record submitted a bid of $1,168 for 10,000 or 11 cents each. Baker Brothers submitted a bid of $1,663 or 16.63 cents per copy.

In other lake business:

— The commission adopted a resolution for new lake regulations. The regulations were changed to coincide with Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks regulations.

— Snelling reported four new signs had been ordered from Dirt Cheap Banners of McPherson for $400.

— A decision was tabled regarding the purchase of a new boat dock. More information will be gathered by Snelling and presented at a future meeting.

Snelling had an estimate of $41,127 for a plastic dock to replace a 50-year-old wooden dock. The commission requested more information.

— Tree trimming also was tabled until FEMA funds are received by the county. An estimated cost of $6,975 was given to Snelling by Dutton Tree Trimming of Peabody to trim trees around the lake.

FEMA reimbursement estimate is 85 percent of $7,792. The commission previously had authorized up to $3,000 be used for trimming.

— County sheriff Lee Becker and Snelling will discuss weekend patrolling issues. Snelling was concerned about an anticipated increase in lake usage and wants additional law enforcement or funding for hiring patrol personnel.
