Nita Bittle, a physician's assistant employed by Marion Family Physicians, is leaving St. Luke Medical Clinic for a position at the Herington Area Health Clinic in Herington. Her last day is Friday.

Bittle came to Marion in August 1993, after graduating from Wichita State University and becoming certified as a physician's assistant.

She mainly worked under the supervision of Dr. Don Hodson.

She said she was welcomed by the people of Marion and enjoyed her time at the clinic.

"I enjoyed getting to know people and becoming involved in the Marion community," she said.

She said she takes pleasure in educating people about health issues. She took special training to provide diabetes education.

She also enjoyed instructing medical students who spent time at the clinic training to be physician's assistants.

"I am fortunate to get paid well for something I enjoy," Bittle said.

As a physician's assistant, she practices under the supervision of a medical doctor but does much of the same work.

Bittle was born in northwest Kansas as Nita Archer. She graduated from Circle High School in Towanda.

A month or so after beginning her practice in Marion, Nita married rancher Kris "Butch" Bittle. They live on the former Ed Broz farm northeast of Marion in the Flint Hills.

The Bittles have a four-and- one-half year old son, Jacob.

Bittle said she felt it was time to move on and do something a little different. She will be working under four part-time physicians until a permanent physician is found.
