Blessings Galore in 2004 is Burdick Labor Day theme years ago

A three-day holiday weekend of fun and festivities is in store for those who attend Burdick's Labor Day celebration Sept. 4-6.

The theme for the 2 p.m. parade Monday is "Blessings Galore in 2004." To enter, contact Linda Peterson at 785-983-4353 or Glenn Carlson at 785-983-4426.

As usual, homemade ice cream will be available afterward at Gary Hageberg's garage.

A fun run will begin at 8 a.m., with registration at 7:30 a.m. at the north end of Main Street. To register, call Jim and Marilyn Peterson at 785-983-4844.

Free kids crafts will be provided all day, hosted by Sally Barlow at the Legion grounds.

A bake sale will begin at 9 a.m. at the fire station. Arts and crafts will be located all day at the shelter house at the north side of the Legion grounds. To reserve a spot, call Nancy Riggin at 785-983-4493.

Kids games will be led by Burdick Hustlers 4-H Club from 10 to 11:30 a.m. An inflatable slide also will be available during that time, three trips down for $1.

Musical entertainment will be provided during the lunch hour. Alex Stuchlik and family will perform from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Lunch will be provided by Centre FFA chapter.

Registration for a pedal power contest will begin at the tennis courts at 1:30 p.m. The contest will be held following the parade.

Beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, a co-recreational softball tournament will be held at Burdick ball diamond. Contact coordinator David Johnson at 785-983-4459 for a chance to participate.

Sunday, a community church service will take place at the tennis courts, with message by Pastor Rick Branson. Rolls and coffee will follow. Bring lawn chairs.

At 7:30 p.m., musical entertainment will be provided by the Harold William Band, Donald Spain on the harmonica, and Mike Gustafson of White City. Homemade ice cream will be sold afterward at Hageberg's garage.

(Note: Hebron Lutheran Church will host Sunday events if rain occurs.)
