Board confident with new schedule

Marion High School will switch from a full block schedule to a 4x4 schedule during the 2007-08 school year which will include morning classes on a block, and afternoon daily classes.

MHS counselor Phoebe Janzen met with teachers this past week, and asked them to rank four different schedule options with one being the highest.

The 4x4 block and daily received the best score with 31, a 6x2 block and daily had 38, the eight-period daily had 62, and the seven-period daily ranked in at 69.

Marion-Florence USD 408 superintendent Lee Leiker said Monday at a special board meeting in the past board members had not actually voted on a schedule change. However, all of the board members were in agreement they wanted what the consensus of teachers wanted.

Leiker and the board members agreed no schedule would accommodate every teacher and student, but they wanted what was best for education.
