Bob Ray

Elmer John "Bob" Ray, 89, of Marion, died May 10, 2008.

Born Dec. 4, 1918, at Severy, he was the son of John and Vergie (Day) Ray.

On Aug. 7, 1944, he married Gertrude W. Powers at Sedan.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving overseas in Japan, and attaining the rank of sergeant.

He was a retired farmer/stockman in the Piedmont area for 36 years. He retired in 1986, and the couple moved to Marion to be closer to their children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ralph, Leonard, Gerald, and Forrest Ray; sister, June Coon; and son-in-law, Dave Jackson.

Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Jackson and Cheryl Ray, both of Marion; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were this morning (Wednesday) at Valley United Methodist Church with Pastor X. Phil Smith officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. at Piedmont Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with Valley United Methodist Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
