Britt-Cooper are married

Shannon Marie Britt and Joshua James Cooper, both of Marion, were united in marriage March 20, 2004, at White City United Methodist Church. Dr. Norm Simmons officiated during the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Connie Britt and Keith and Dixie Britt of White City. She is the granddaughter of Kenneth Sanford of White City.

The groom is the son of Ron and Bev Cooper of Marion. He is the grandson of Eva Jean Cooper of Marion.

Dawn Brown of Lenexa, cousin of the bride, lighted a memory candle during the ceremony to honor Ruth Sanford and Jim and Velma Britt, late grandparents of the bride; Virgil Cooper and Clarence and Laverna Kline, late grandparents of the groom; and Jereme Cooper, brother of the groom.

Jason Britt, brother of the bride, escorted his sister down the aisle where she was given away by her parents.

The bride wore a strapless mock two-piece satin gown with an organza overlay with scalloped edging. The gown, highlighted with embroidered appliques and miniature pearls, featured a cathedral-length train. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of red roses, white and yellow daises, white berries, purple statis, and greenery.

Matrons of honor were Dayna Rice of Olathe and Kara Riedy of White City, both cousins of the bride. Bridesmaids were Paula Hepner of Emporia, Christin Schmidt of Wichita, and Amanda Backhus of Derby. They wore apple-red floor-length dresses and carried miniature hand-held bouquets similar to the bride's.

Cousins of the bride, Maryn Brown of Lenexa and Sydney Rice of Olathe, served as flower girls. Ringbearer was Carter Brown of Lenexa, cousin of the bride.

The groom wore a black tuxedo with black vest and tie. Chuck Maggard of Cottonwood Falls was the best man. Groomsmen were Chris Darrow of Lee's Summit, Mo., Chad Buchholz of Marion, and the groom's brothers, Jamey Cooper of Marion and Jason Bina of Wichita.

Serving as ushers were Jason Britt, Jamey Cooper, and Jason Bina.

Candlelighters were Erin McKernan of Great Bend and Trisha Clevenger of Clearwater. Linda Bina of Wichita, sister-in-law of the groom, read scripture during the ceremony.

Gabrielle Darrow of Lee's Summit, Mo., was the soloist. Karen Harmison of White City was the accompanist.

Beth Schobert of Hillsboro and Natalie Hett of Marion arranged the flowers for the wedding. Kim Sanford of White City, cousin of the bride, and Maggie Powers of Marion were guest book attendants. Stephanie Laudemann of White City served as the bride's personal attendant.

Jackson Welsh of Wilsey, Jordyn Sanford of White City, Emma Ricker of Raymond, cousins of the bride, and Emme Bina of Wichita, cousin of the groom, passed out bubbles to guests after the ceremony.

Following the ceremony, a reception, dinner, and dance was held at the Council Grove Community Building. Reception hosts were Don and Debbie Sanford and David and Judy Sanford, all of White City, aunts and uncles of the bride, and Martin and Sandy Bina of Marion, aunt and uncle of the groom. Patty Britt, Christie Britt, and Gaila Sanford, aunts of the bride from White City, served cake and punch to guests.

A rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, hosted by the groom's parents, was held March 19. Helping to prepare and serve the dinner were Janis Maggard, Donna Hajek, Debbi Darrow, and Debbie Buchholz, all of Marion.

The bride is a graduate of White City High School and Emporia State University. She is a teacher at Marion-Florence USD 408.

The groom is a graduate of Marion High School and Kansas State University-Salina. He is an engineer at Kasa Industrial Controls in Salina.

Following a honeymoon in Maui, Hawaii, the couple reside in Marion.
