Brookens to perform in Europe with ensemble
Justin Brookens of Marion will play venues in Europe on a 10-day tour with the Drake University Jazz Ensemble I.
The tour will run from July 5-15.
The 20-piece ensemble will perform at festival in Vienna, Austria; Montreux, Switzerland; Vienne, France; and Brugge, Belgium. The highlight of the tour will be performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival July 9-10.
During the tour, students will visit the Vincent Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and the Rijksmuseum. The group also will attend the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The jazz ensemble has received numerous awards at various competitions including Outstanding College Jazz Ensemble at the Eau Claire Jazz Festival at the University of Wisconsin.
Brookens recently completed his sophomore year at Drake, and plays the trumpet. He is the son of Bob and Anita Brookens of Marion.
