A group of women from the United Methodist church went to Wichita Friday evening to see a production of "Church Basement Ladies" at the Crown Uptown Theatre. Those going were Diana Jost, Lee Shade, Susan Carlson, Janet Matz, Kiki Krause, and Peggy Carlson. They reported enjoying the play and having a great time.

Darlene Gutsch accompanied Gayla Deines to the eighth grade recognition Tuesday evening at Herington Middle School. Anthony Gutsch was a member of the eighth grade class and was recognized and promoted. Darlene and Gayla ate supper together after the program.

Confirmation services were held Sunday at Burdick United Methodist Church for Carrie Carlson, Beka Basore, and Theo Kassebaum.

Guests May 18-19 of Walter and Katherine Otte were Marta and Kevin Thrift of Apple Valley, Minn., Amanda Otte of Manhattan, and Stan Otte of Dwight.

Forrest and Marie Anderson took part in the 100th anniversary celebration of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Herington Sunday and attended the catered dinner.

A retirement party was held May 23 at Medicalodges at Herington to honor Kathryn Otte for her 32 years of employment. They also recognized Josh Rodriguez and Randy Smith who graduated Sunday with the senior class at Herington High School.

Monday afternoon visitors of Evelyn Forsberg were Fred Berns of Peabody, Harry Schump of Herington, and Dean Forsberg and Savannah.

Burdick United Methodist Women met Thursday evening for their monthly meeting at the Burdick United Methodist fellowship hall. Jean Ecklund gave devotions and the lesson. Kiki Krause was the hostess. Members attending included Susan Carlson, Karen Carlson, Darlene Gutsch, Marilyn Hageberg, Lee Shade, Jean Ecklund, Diana Jost, Janet Matz, Evelyn Matz, Betty Frobenius, Kiki Krause, and Khrista Branson.

Gary and Marilyn Hageberg attended the promotion and awards program Wednesday evening at Centre High School. Their grandson, Trevor Hageberg was a member of the eighth grade class. They attended a party following the program at the home of Mike and Denice Hageberg.

Darlene Gutsch joined Perry Gutsch and Gayla Deines and Justin Friday evening and went to the Lincolnville Cemetery to decorate Charles' grave. Darlene took them to Al's Café at Lost Springs for supper. They were joined at Al's by Amy Gutsch, Anthony and Whitney of Herington and Jessica Deines of Manhattan.

Gary and Marilyn Hageberg decorated graves in the Marion area late Friday afternoon. They met Thad and Janie Meierhoff of Marion for supper at the Pizza Hut and visited at their home in the evening.

Perry Gutsch and Whitney of Herington were Sunday morning visitors of Darlene Gutsch and attended Burdick United Methodist Church with her.

Dean Forsberg visited Evelyn Forsberg Thursday morning. Evelyn attended the Council Grove Middle School awards program Thursday morning. Wade Rickenbrode received a Kansas Scholarship Award in American history. Evelyn Forsberg hosted dinner at noon at East Side Grill for Jane Rickenbrode, Wade and Morgan and Savannah Forsberg.

Weekend guests of Neva Peterson were Larry Peterson of Granby, Colo., who came Friday night and stayed until Tuesday morning, and Darrell and Candice Denault of Salina, who came Saturday and returned home Monday.

Dean Forsberg and Joe Forsberg of Salina were Saturday morning visitors of Evelyn Forsberg.

Gary and Marilyn Hageberg attended a band concert May 7 given by the Topeka Trojans at Topeka High School. Their grandson, Phillip Hageberg, plays in the band. He is a senior at Topeka High.

Gary and Marilyn Hageberg went to Topeka Saturday morning to help Teresa Hageberg. They attended graduation exercises in the afternoon for their grandson, Phillip, and a reception following at the Hageberg home.

Perry Gutsch was a Wednesday after work visitor of Darlene Gutsch.

Mary Deane Peterson and Harry Schump of Herington were Wednesday afternoon visitors of Evelyn Forsberg. Harry took Evelyn to Al's Café at Lost Springs for supper.

Dan and Linda Peterson and Warren and Paula Fike of Ramona attended Derek Fike's high school graduation Saturday afternoon at Rock Creek. They attended Ariel Eells and Brett Jankord's wedding Saturday evening at Manhattan.

Vacation Bible school will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 9-12 at Burdick United Methodist Church.

Ruth Riggin was a Mother's Day dinner guest of Lyal and Julie Sader at Salina. Other guests were Helen Sader of Lindsborg, Tisha Bielefeld, Seth and Megan, Mark Pettijohn, and Brian Sader and friend Missy, all of Salina.

Burdick Council of Clubs met Monday evening at the Legion hall with 11 members present. We are using a western theme this year, "Round 'em Up, Bring 'em In." Events, entertainment, and concessions are being planned for the celebration. The next meeting has been scheduled for 7 p.m. June 9 at the Legion hall.

Mary Deane Peterson and Wayne and Nancy Hanson attended the spring concert Tuesday evening at Centre High School.

Saturday overnight guests of Clint and Diana Jost were John and Tory Jost and Collin of St. Mary's. They were joined for Mother's Day dinner by Nick and Beth Weibert and Kayla of Abilene and James Jost. Afternoon callers were Marva Morrison of Wichita and Naomi Nelson.

Bermet Zhumakadyr kyzy was the speaker Friday noon at the Burdick senior citizens' meeting at the Legion building. She gave a PowerPoint presentation about her country and told of some differences between her country and the U.S. and answered some questions. She was thanked and given a monetary gift. A catered fried chicken dinner was served following the program to 23 members, one guest, and the speaker. A short business meeting followed with the minutes and treasurers report. The date for the next meeting will be announced later.

Rylee and Preslee Karst of Wichita visited Charles and Arlene Carlson Saturday afternoon. They were spending some time with their grandparents, Mike and Linda Carlson.

Ruth Riggin and Lois Peterson met Lyal and Julie Sader of Salina at Centre High School Sunday afternoon and attended graduation exercises. They all attended a reception for Nikki Stenzel at the Tampa Senior Center following graduation.

A group of adults and young people picked up and disposed of five loads of tree limbs from the December ice storm Wednesday. Those helping were Jack Riggin with his truck and chain saw, Gary Brown, Carla Engler, Nathaniel and Samantha, Jamie Peterson and Bermet, Diana Jost, Janet Matz and Adam, Tyler Klenda, Casey Kristek, Brian Burhoop, and Jesse Kopietz.

Gary and Marilyn Hageberg attended graduation Sunday at Centre High School. They attended a reception for Brooke Carlson at the Lincolnville Community Building and one for Ethan Forsberg at the Burdick Legion hall.

Pastor Rick Branson, Marion and Burdick United Methodist church minister, graduated Friday from St. Paul School of Theology, Kansas City, Mo., with a master of divinity degree. A luncheon was held at the seminary followed by graduation exercises at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, Leawood. Diana Jost and Shirley Miller of Herington attended. Some of those from Marion attending were Khrista Branson, Pastor Mike Eurit, Mary Beth Bowers, Jenny Lind, and Bob and Judy Priest.

Forrest and Marie Anderson attended a reception Saturday evening for Kylie Burhoop at the home of Enno and Yvonne Burhoop. They attended graduation at Centre High School Sunday afternoon and a reception for Ethan Forsberg at the Legion hall.

Mary Deane Peterson and Josie Peterson attended a surprise retirement party Friday evening for Judy Peterson at Herington.

Harry Schump of Herington, Jane Rickenbrode, Wade and Morgan of Council Grove were Sunday dinner guests of Evelyn Forsberg. They all attended graduation at Centre High School and a reception for Ethan Forsberg, son of Dean and Nanette Forsberg.

Perry Gutsch was a Sunday morning visitor of Darlene Gutsch. Darlene attended a reception for Tye Remy, son of Tom and Lynley Remy Sunday afternoon at their home following graduation.

Jean Brunner and Tucker Brunner visited after school Tuesday afternoon with Charles and Arlene Carlson.

Marilyn Peterson and Lois Peterson attended a piano recital Saturday at Lindsborg. Reagan Dalke, daughter of Matt and Jamie Dalke, played in the recital.

Josie Peterson of Lincolnville was a Sunday guest of Mary Deane Peterson.

Lee and Elinor Remy attended the spring concert Tuesday evening and awards night Thursday evening at Centre High School. They attended a pre-graduation party Saturday evening for Kylie Burhoop.

Burdette and Maureen Peterson, Mary Deane Peterson, and Josie Peterson attended a pre-graduation party for Elizabeth Beye Saturday afternoon at the home of Bret and Lisa Beye at Herington.

Chuck and Jan Creger, Jacob and Caleb of Ridgedale, Mo., were weekend guests of Lee and Elinor Remy. They came Friday evening and returned to their home Sunday evening. Lee and Elinor and their houseguests attended graduation Sunday afternoon at Centre High School and a reception for Tye Remy.

Mary Deane Peterson and Josie Peterson attended a pre-graduation party for Hanna Kemble Saturday afternoon at Herington.

Lee and Elinor Remy attended a reception for Andy Carlson, son of Glenn and Sandy Carlson Sunday afternoon at Hebron Lutheran Church fellowship hall.

Greg Painter of Grantville was a Thursday afternoon visitor of Evelyn Forsberg.

Corlberg-Smith #147 American Legion and auxiliary met May 6 at the Legion hall. Seven Legion members and three auxiliary members were present. The next Legion meeting will be at 8 p.m. June 3. The next auxiliary meeting will be at 8 p.m. Oct. 7 with Nancy Hanson as hostess.

Forrest and Marie Anderson attended the funeral of Carl Wagner Saturday afternoon at Penwell-Gabel chapel at Herington.

Casar and Kelli Salazar, Rigo and Mario entertained Saturday evening with a supper at their home in Derby. Guests were Ron and Jenny Schrader, Shea and Hunter, Wanda Huyler, Danlie Tanner of Wichita, Bret and Lisa Beye, Chelsea and Cuyler, Herington, Burdette and Maureen Peterson, and Mary Deane Peterson.

Audine Strand of Herington was a Thursday evening visitor of Darlene Gutsch while Irvin strand attended a church meeting at Burdick United Methodist fellowship hall.

Darrell and Candice Denault of Salina spent Mother's Day with Neva Peterson. They attended church services together at Burdick Hebron Lutheran Church.

Perry Gutsch was a Wednesday afternoon visitor of Darlene Gutsch. Gayla Deines was an evening visitor.

Mary Deane Peterson, Naomi Nelson, and Josie Peterson attended the 80th birthday party and open house Sunday afternoon for Marjorie Erickson at the Golden Age party room. Others from Burdick attending were Gary and Marilyn Hageberg, Lee and Elinor Remy, Burdette and Maureen Peterson, and Lois Peterson.

Josie Peterson was a Sunday dinner guest of Mary Deane Peterson.

Visitors of Marie and Forrest Anderson this week were Mary Deane Peterson, Roger and Rolland Peterson, and Brian Burhoop.

Jeff and Gayla Deines, Shelby and Justin entertained Sunday for Mother's Day with a barbecue dinner. Guests were Darlene Gutsch, Jessica Deines, Dustin Burnett, and Bryant Brunner.

Forrest and Marie Anderson were Sunday dinner guests of Gary and Karen Korte of Emporia at the Hays House at Council Grove. Other guests were Ian Korte, Erin Korte, and Gary's mother, Mary Korte.
