Kate Basore's eighth birthday was celebrated Oct. 20 with a circus-themed party. Overnight guests were Rebecca Casey, Rosalie Holub, Grace Peterson, Ashley Young, Dakota Spooner, Megan David, and Kate's family, Angela and Rick Basore, Beka, Ally, Matthew, and Francis George.

Bud Smithson was a Tuesday afternoon visitor of Darlene Gutsch and brought her some snacks from his hunting.

Burdick UMW met Oct. 17 at the church fellowship hall. Eight members and one guest attended. They were Susan Carlson, Diana Jost, Karen Carlson, Darlene Gutsch, Jean Ecklund, Ruth Ann Carlson, Kiki Krause, Janet Matz, and guest Lee Spade. Devotions were given by Janet Matz. The lesson, "Lord Be Glorified," was given by Karen Carlson. Diana Jost served refreshments. Reports were given for money-making projects and meetings members had attended. The next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at the church fellowship hall.

Ethan Forsberg was a Monday supper guest of Evelyn Forsberg. Dean Forsberg was a Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning visitor of Evelyn Forsberg.

Corlberg-Smith #147 American Legion and Auxiliary will sponsor pancake days from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Nov. 10 at the Legion hall.

Mike and Jane Rickenbrode, Wade and Morgan of Council Grove were Thursday evening visitors of Evelyn Forsberg. Wade and Morgan were her guests until Saturday.

The Hebron Lutheran WELCA met Oct. 17 at the fellowship hall. Carol Riffel was lesson leader and Lois Peterson was hostess. Members present were Gloria Martin, Hallie Novak, Dollye Novak, Jewell Swinney, Nancy Hanson, Marilyn Peterson, Carol Riffel, and Lois Peterson.

Savannah Forsberg of Emporia and Linnea Barlow were Friday afternoon visitors of Evelyn Forsberg.

Burdick Senior Citizens met at noon Oct. 19 for a fried chicken meal. Eighteen members and four guests attended. Guests included two foreign exchange students attending school at White City, one from Munich, Germany, and the other from Astonia. They were accompanied by their sponsor, Bob Feist. Their reports on their countries were very interesting. They held a question and answer session after their speeches. They shared their views on our country and talked about their customs, cultures, and items from their families and countries. Tentative plans are being made for a catered Thanksgiving dinner at noon Nov. 16. If you have program suggestions, call Nancy Hanson.

Walt and Kathryn Otte and Earl and Lois Peterson visited Ivan and Margaret Morgan at Burns Saturday afternoon.

Perry Gutsch and Anthony of Herington were Saturday afternoon visitors of Darlene Gutsch. They mowed her lawn and did some other chores for her.

Saturday afternoon visitors of Evelyn Forsberg were Joe Forsberg of Salina, Sabrina Dunkin of Rose Hill, Savannah Forsberg of Emporia, and Ethan Forsberg and Willie Hicks of Wilsey.

Dick Stevens, Nancy Riggin's father, had back surgery this past week in Wichita. Keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers as he recuperates at Wesley Rehab Center.

Marilyn Hageberg celebrated her birthday at noon Wednesday by having lunch with friends at the Mansion at Abilene. Those helping celebrate were Shirley Miller of Burdick, Goldie Steely, Janet Johnson of Enterprise, and Shirley Gawith of Salina.

Joyce Roever and Mary Deane Peterson visited the Berger-Sandzen Memorial Gallery Friday at Lindsborg. It was the 50th anniversary of the building.

Shirley Miller of Herington had surgery Oct. 19 at Wichita. Remember her with prayers and cards while she is recuperating at home.

Candice Denault of Salina was a Saturday afternoon visitor of Neva Peterson.

Burdick Council of Clubs will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Burdick Legion hall. There will be reports on the 2007 celebration and financial reports. There also will be a new issue for council of clubs members to discuss so try to be present. Others from the community also are invited to attend.

Many from the community attended the 65th wedding anniversary celebration for Ken and Alice Peterson Sunday afternoon at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington. Attending were Neva Peterson, Lee and Elinor Remy, Ruth Riggin, Earl and Lois Peterson, Charles and Arlene Carlson, Mike and Linda Carlson, Forrest and Marie Anderson, Roger and Rolland Peterson. Some of them attended church services there and had dinner together at noon at the Mansion at Herington.

After Ken and Alice's celebration Sunday evening, many friends and relatives had supper together at their home. Some of the guests were Russell and Lily Hurd of Mulvane, Doris Deines and Lynn of Dodge City, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Werneke of Georgia, Jean Brunner of Ramona, Charles and Arlene Carlson and Mike and Linda Carlson of Burdick, and Ken and Alice's children, Don and Gloria Peterson of Camdenton, Mo., and Linda Huntington of Springfield, Va., and grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Peterson and family and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Peterson and family of Kansas City.

Friends of Lorraine Gerry got together for a farewell lunch Wednesday noon at the Pizza Hut at Herington.

Evelyn Forsberg was a Saturday evening visitor of Harry Schump at Herington. They went to church together and ate supper out.

Bret and Lisa Beye, Cuyler and Chelsea of Herington and Josie Peterson of Lincolnville were Sunday evening visitors of Mary Deane Peterson.

Nancy Hanson was a Sunday afternoon visitor of Forrest and Marie Anderson.

Harry Schump of Herington was a Sunday dinner and supper guest of Evelyn Forsberg.

Bill Peterson, son of Mary Deane Peterson, had surgery Wednesday at the Junction City hospital. He is still there recuperating and is in fair condition. Keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Teresa Hageberg and Kenny Roberts of Topeka met Gary and Marilyn at Manhattan Sunday to celebrate Marilyn's birthday. They had dinner and went shopping.

Isla Rose Nelson of Lindsborg and Steve and Donna Hanneman of Peabody attended Burdick United Methodist Church Sunday morning. They also attended the Peterson family reunion Sunday noon at the Burdick Legion hall.

Lorraine Gerry was a Saturday afternoon visitor of Mary Deane Peterson.

The Lincolnville 4-H Club attended Burdick United Methodist Church Oct. 14 in honor of 4-H Sunday. Guests were club members, parents, and sponsors. Other guests were Ernie and Donna Luna and Jennifer of Hillsboro, who were a part of the program. There was a potluck dinner at noon with about 35 attending. After the dinner, the program was held in the church with a slide show and presentation for a mission trip to Reynosa, Mexico, in July by Donna Luna and daughter and Janet Matz.

Donna told about the sponsoring organization, Hands of Jesus Ministry International Inc., their purpose and goals. They have constructed a facility in Texas that houses the workers while they are there. Some of the things they participated in were free health clinics, vitamins, food, vacation Bible school and education classes, distribution of clothes, food, and gifts these and other mission workers had brought. They had a slide presentation of their activities, some of the housing, and other events held while they were there. Adam Matz showed the slides.

Harry Schump of Herington was a Wednesday evening visitor of Evelyn Forsberg after they had attended the Lutheran fried chicken supper.

Earl Peterson brought Ollie Peterson from the Herington Assisted Living Center to church services Sunday at Hebron Lutheran Church and to the Peterson reunion at the Burdick Legion hall. Lois reported 59 had attended the reunion.

Harry Schump and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schump of Arlington, Texas, were Friday supper guests of Evelyn Forsberg.

The Hebron Lutheran Church fried chicken dinner was held Oct. 10 at the church fellowship hall. A large crowd attended, along with people who prepared food and served it. It was reported the food almost sold out. These events are so important to our small churches that are having a hard time with finances.

Harry Schump, Evelyn Forsberg, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schump attended the Council Grove Junior High School football game Thursday evening at Council Grove. Wade Rickenbrode, Evelyn's grandson, was one of the players.

Ruth Riggin attended a 36th birthday party Saturday noon at the home of Julie and Lyal Sader at Salina for her grandson, Brian Sader of Salina. Other guests were his children, Trevin and Brylee, his friend, Missy and her daughter, Sammy, Tisha Bielefeld, Megan and Seth, Helen Sader, and Ruth Riggin.

Josie Peterson of Lincolnville, Scott Peterson of El Dorado, and Eric Peterson of Emporia were Saturday evening visitors of Mary Deane Peterson.

Russell and Lily Hurd of Mulvane, former residents of this area, will celebrate their 60th anniversary from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday with an open house at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Mulvane. Their address is 209 Centennial, Mulvane 67110.

Gene and Jean Ecklund and Tim and Karen Biehler went to McPherson Saturday afternoon to a production of "Peter Pan" at McPherson High School. Courtney Kresky, daughter of Steve and Debbie Kresky, a member of the drama department, was in the play, first as a pirate and at the end as Jane.

Dick and Margaret Peterson of Springfield, Mo., was here to attend the Peterson reunion Sunday.

Dean Forsberg, Savannah Forsberg, and Willie Hicks of Wilsey were Saturday afternoon visitors of Evelyn Forsberg.

Nolan and Melissa Brunner of Herington entertained with a second birthday party Sunday afternoon for their daughter, Leah. Guests were Charles and Arlene Carlson, Mike and Linda Carlson, Rylee and Preslee Karst, Anne and Bernie Koch, Lauren and Orville Brunner, Kent and Jean Brunner, Jill Brunner and Tucker, Rose and John Stimac, Sarah and John Sensky, and Amy Hanely.
