There were some people who were not mentioned from the Burdick Bunch who participated in the Council Grove Relay for Life event. They were David and Connie Johnson, Kirsten and Kody; Pam Ackley; and Glen and Sandy Carlson, Katie and Andy. They were there Friday night and Saturday morning.

Burdick Bullets slow pitch team won first place for the second year in a row in the Marion County men's league slow pitch tournament this past weekend. The tournament was to be held in Florence but was moved to Marion due to the weather. The score of the final game was 38-26. Congratulations to the team.

Evelyn Forsberg was the guest of honor Saturday evening at a surprise 80th birthday party at the Tri-County Building, Herington. Hosts for the party were her children Bonnie Sue Hefner and Keith, Wagner, Okla., Dean Forsberg and Nanette, and Jane Rickenbrode and Mike, Council Grove, her brother Harry Schump, Herington, and her grandchildren. Eighty relatives and friends gathered to enjoy a buffet supper and birthday cake.

Whitney Gutch, Herington, was a Wednesday and Friday guest of her grandparents, Charles and Darlene Gutsch, while her mother was preparing for the upcoming school year.

Mary Deane Peterson was a Monday evening guest of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg.

Burdick UMW met Wednesday evening at fellowship hall. There were 14 members and a guest present. Devotions were given by Evelyn Matz, and the lesson was "Giving of Yourself" by Noreen Weems, Peabody. Marilyn Hageberg served refreshments. The next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21. Remember to bring items for UMCOR health kits or Main Street Ministries of Hillsboro.

Charles and Arlene Carlson were Sunday evening visitors of Dan and Linda Peterson.

Ethan Forsberg was a Tuesday evening guest of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg.

WELCA of Hebron Lutheran Church will have a monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21, at the church basement.

Keith and Bonnie Sue Hefner, Wagner, Okla., were overnight guests Saturday of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg.

Charles and Arlene Carlson were Saturday afternoon guests of Kent and Jean Brunner.

Forrest and Marie Anderson attended the 65th anniversary party Saturday afternoon for Luther and Lucille Spaulding, Herington. The party was held at Golden Age Home activity center.

Sunday dinner guests of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg were Keith and Bonnie Sue Hefner, Wagner, Okla., and Harry Schump, Herington.

Maurine Johnson, Forrest Anderson's sister, will move Monday to Lindsborg hospital. She was recuperating from a recent surgery at a Wichita hospital.

Everyone is invited to a community shower at 7 p.m. Sept. 9 for Ashton Kerbs, bride-elect of Jesse Smith, at Burdick United Methodist Church fellowship hall.

Word was received this week of the death of Sylvia (Sill) Burns, sister of Bonnie Sill, Herington, and the late Raleigh Sill. She died at an Emporia nursing home. A memorial service was held Tuesday at Lincolnville Cemetery followed by visitation at Lincolnville Hospitality House.

Sunday afternoon guests of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg were Eric and Cindy Forsberg, Spring Hill, Trina Crabtree, Adrian and Jordan, Wagner, Okla., Marcus and Sabrina Dunkin and Logan, Herington, Mike and Jane Rickenbrode, Wade and Morgan, Council Grove, and Dean and Nanette Forsberg, Savannah and Ethan.
