Burdick: Andersons attend play at Emporia State

Forrest and Marie Anderson accompanied Gary and Karen Korte of Emporia Wednesday evening to a drama, "A Bright Room Called Day" at Emporia State University. Their grandson, Ian Korte was a member of the cast. They spent the night with Gary and Karen and returned home Thursday.

Bill Kassebaum and Arlene Carlson attended a Republican meeting Wednesday evening at Morris County Courthouse to elect a new county attorney.

Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson called Saturday afternoon on the Rick Basore family.

Wade Rickenbrode of Council Grove was a weekend guest of Evelyn Forsberg.

Jean Brunner and Tucker Brunner of Manhattan visited Saturday afternoon with Charles and Arlene Carlson.

Bill and Judy Peterson of Herington and Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson spent Sunday with Dave and Sara Denly and Ben at Winfield.

Tucker Brunner of Manhattan was a Sunday afternoon visitor of Linda Carlson.

Bill and Carol Rickenbrode of Hope hosted a 7 p.m. dinner Friday evening for Mike Rickenbrode's birthday. Guests were Jane Rickenbrode, Wade and Morgan of Council Grove, Bernice Rickenbrode of Hope, Harry Schump of Herington, and Evelyn Forsberg.

Marvin Peterson of Lincolnville visited Saturday evening with Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson. They looked at pictures of Hurricane Katrina and the work he had done.

Tom McRae of Carlsbad, Calif., was a Saturday afternoon visitor of Evelyn Forsberg.

Burdick UM Women met Wednesday at the church fellowship hall. Fourteen members and one guest were present. Devotions were given by Nancy Riggin, refreshments were served by Kiki Krause and Janet Matz. Donna Luna, guest from Hillsboro, gave a program on a recent trip to Mexico by a group from Hands of Jesus ministry.

Charles and Darlene Gutsch attended a Gutsch family pre-Thanksgiving dinner Sunday noon at Valley United Methodist Church at Marion. Hosting this year's dinner was Charles' sister, Juanita Helmer and her daughters, Ginger Richter and Greta Smith of Marion. Thirty were present to enjoy dinner and visiting in the afternoon.

Evelyn Forsberg's Sunday evening visitors were Dean and Nanette Forsberg, Savannah and Ethan, Joe Forsberg of Salina, Sabrina Dunkin and Logan of Herington, and Mike and Jane Rickenbrode, Wade and Morgan of Council Grove.

Burdick UM Church will have the Hanging of the Greens at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The movie "Polar Express" will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Snacks will be furnished.

United Methodist Charge Conference was held Monday evening at Burdick UM Church fellowship hall. A soup, sandwich, and dessert supper was served to 50 guests. District superintendent Rick Sailor of Hutchinson presided at the meeting. Assisting were Pastor John Goering and Pastor Rick Branson of Marion.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Balmer of Aledo, Ill., called Tuesday afternoon on Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson.

There will be a Christmas community supper at Hebron Lutheran Church basement at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7. Bring a gift for Indian Oak Mission. Suggestions are undergarments, socks, gloves, and stocking caps.

Charles Gutsch visited Friday afternoon with Evelyn Forsberg and Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson.

Gary Wernecke of Georgia was a Monday evening supper guest of Charles and Arlene Carlson. Others were Esther Wernecke of White City, Ken and Alice Peterson of Herington, and Mike and Linda Carlson.

For those wanting to send cookies to the Veterans hospital at Topeka, take them to Burdick Oil Co. by Tuesday. The Legionnaires will take them Wednesday when they go to help in the gift shop.

Mr. and Mrs. Bret Beye of Herington and Josie Peterson of Lincolnville were Wednesday supper guests of Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson. Burdette Peterson was an evening caller.

Burdick Senior Citizens met Friday at Burdick Legion Hall for a turkey dinner. Sixteen members were present. A short business meeting was held after dinner. The secretary and treasurer reports were read and approved. We voted to pay the rent for the legion hall for the flu clinic to be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Tentative date for the next meeting is Dec. 16. Time and program will be announced later.

A 90th birthday party open house for Harvey Hawkinson will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Golden Age activity room.

Logan Dunkin of Herington stayed Tuesday through Thursday with Evelyn Forsberg. Marcus and Sabrina Dunkin visited Thursday afternoon and picked up Logan. Nanette Forsberg also was a visitor.

Sara Denly and Ben of Winfield were Friday supper guests of Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson.

Earl and Ruth Schump of Herington were Thursday evening visitors of Evelyn Forsberg.

Hebron Lutheran WELCA met Wednesday at the church. "Act Boldly In Peace" was the lesson given by Gloria Martin. Jamie Peterson was hostess. Attending were Nancy Hanson, Alona Hedstrom, Jewell Swinney, Naomi Nelson, Lois Peterson, and Lorraine Gerry.

Haywood to meet

with veterans Tuesday

Richard Haywood, veterans' service representative for the Kansas Commission on Veterans' Affairs will be at the Marion County Health Department, Marion, from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday.
