Burdick celebration brings DVHS schoolmates together

Monday was a perfect day for bringing family and friends together at Burdick. A weather front passed through during the weekend, leaving behind sunny conditions that were not too hot, not too cold, but just right.

The Labor Day theme, "School Days," created a stimulating atmosphere for school reunions and class floats featuring graduates of Diamond Valley High School.

The oldest alumnus present was 98-year-old Oliver Peterson, a lifelong Burdick resident who rode through the parade in a convertible. He was a member of the class of 1926.

The 55 entries in the 2 p.m. parade were led by a color guard and the Centre Junior/Senior High School Band, directed by Chad Tischhauser.

Ruth Riggin was grand marshal. The 83-year-old woman has lived in Burdick for 20 years and has served on Burdick Council of Clubs for 10. She oversees the kiddie tractor pull at Labor Day celebrations.

The parade was announced by Lee Remy and judged by Jim Clemmer, mayor of Tampa, Jerry Britt, Morris County Commissioner, and Michelle Garret, Morris County Clerk.
