Burdick: Council of Clubs makes plans for Labor Day

Council of Clubs met Thursday evening with 10 members present at the Legion shelter house. Entertainment and other events were finalized. Parade and prizes were discussed. A new category this year in conjunction with the DV reunion and school days theme will be for DV alumni floats or other school floats. Two prizes will be awarded. Work was done on advance promotion posters. The next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. July 13 at the Legion shelter house.

Dean Forsberg was a Monday dinner guest of Evelyn Forsberg. Harry Schump of Herington was an afternoon and supper guest.

Hebron Lutheran WELCA will meet at 7:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the home of Gloria Martin. Jewell Swinney will have the lesson.

Whitney Gutsch of Herington spent Wednesday with Charles and Darlene Gutsch. Charles Gutsch attended Whitney's ballgame at Herington Wednesday evening.

Logan Dunkin was a Tuesday morning visitor of Evelyn Forsberg. Sabrina Dunkin and Logan were dinner guests. Ethan and Savannah were afternoon visitors.

Burdick UMW will meet at 7:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Burdick United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Devotions will be by Khrista Branson. The program will be presented by the shepherdess, Rowena Olsen of Marion. Refreshments will be by Marilyn Hageberg and Jean Ecklund.

Ruth Riggin attended a party celebrating Trevin Sader's sixth birthday Sunday hosted by Corey Sader and Brylee at Salina. Other guests were Brian Sader and Lyle and Julie Sader of Salina, Chris and Tisha Bielefeld, Megan and Seth of Peabody, Anna Stika of Tampa, Lisa Hanschu and Anna Weber of Ramona, and Corey's brother, Chris and two sons of Abilene.

Mary Deane Peterson was a Thursday afternoon visitor of Evelyn Forsberg.

Wade Rickenbrode of Council Grove spent from Thursday afternoon to Sunday morning with Evelyn Forsberg.

Lorraine Gerry was a Saturday morning visitor of Neva Peterson.

Neva Peterson and Larry Peterson were Sunday evening visitors of Galen and Janis Peterson.

Dean Forsberg and Wade Rickenbrode were Friday dinner guests of Evelyn Forsberg.

Confirmation services were held Sunday at Hebron Lutheran Church. Those who were confirmed were Josie Peterson of Lincolnville, Kirsten Johnson, Katie Carlson, and Andy Carlson. A potluck dinner at noon honored the confirmants.

Earl and Lois Peterson attended a memorial service Sunday afternoon at Lewis Cemetery, Ramona, for Anita Shields Wall.

Harry Schump of Herington was a Sunday afternoon and evening visitor of Evelyn Forsberg.

Forrest and Marie Anderson were Sunday evening luncheon guests of Charles and Mona Kniebel of White City.

Lorraine Gerry was a Saturday morning visitor of Lois Peterson.

Vacation Bible school will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. June 20-23 at Burdick United Methodist Church. The theme is "Prayer Safari." Everyone is welcome. This is sponsored by Burdick United Methodist Church, Lincolnville United Methodist Church, and Hebron Lutheran Church.

Charles and Arlene Carlson were honored with a 60th wedding anniversary open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Burdick United Methodist Church fellowship hall. The open house was hosted by their children, Mike and Linda Carlson and Jean and Kent Brunner of Lost Springs, their grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Refreshments of decorated anniversary cake, punch, coffee, and tea were served from a table adorned with a bouquet of flowers. Many area residents, other friends, and relatives attended the open house.

There was a surprise gathering of family and other relatives Sunday at the Irvin and Audine Strand home to celebrate their 60th anniversary which was June 5. A catered meal was enjoyed. Homemade ice cream was served in the afternoon. Guests were Greg and Rita Strand, Overland Park; Garth and Pam Strand, Buhler; Mary Jo Cartwright, Independence, Mo.; Karen Mendenhall, Hutchinson; Ileen Meyer, Emporia; and Janice Akin, Los Angeles, Calif.

Memorial Day morning visitors of Evelyn Forsberg were Mike and Jane Rickenbrode, Wade and Morgan, Council Grove. Dean and Nanette Forsberg hosted a dinner on Memorial Day. Their guests were Joe, Savannah, and Ethan Forsberg, Evelyn Forsberg, Harry Schump, Marcus and Sabrina Dunkin and Logan, Herington, and Wade Rickenbrode.

Tuesday evening supper guests of Mary Deane Peterson were Bret and Lisa Beye, Cuyler and Chelsea, Herington.

Charles and Darlene Gutsch attended church Sunday at St. John's Lutheran Church at Lincolnville. Their granddaughter, Shelby Deines was one of the class of four being confirmed. Jeff and Gayla Deines, Jessica and Justin hosted a barbecue dinner for her. Others attending were Charles and Darlene Gutsch, Merv and Leona Deines, Terry and Julie Deines, McKenzie, Dylan, and Carly of Ramona, Ross and Deb Coup, Samantha and Adam of Hope, and Weldon and Rose Mary Deines, and Kathy Beisel of Herington. Pastor and Cherri Stahlecker of Lincolnville and Andrea Stahlecker of Wichita were afternoon guests.

Keith and Jan Olson of Salina were Saturday evening visitors of Lee and Elinor Remy.

Forrest and Marie Anderson were Wednesday evening dinner guests of Earl and Marcella Hermstein at Herington.

Pastor John and Beverly Goering of Marion were honored Sunday after church services with a retirement party in the Burdick United Methodist fellowship hall. Cake and coffee were served.

Janice Akin of Los Angeles, Calif., was a guest of Irvin and Audine Strand from Thursday until Monday.

Mike and Linda Carlson and Jean Brunner were Sunday afternoon visitors of Charles and Arlene Carlson.

Harry Schump of Herington was a Thursday dinner guest of Evelyn Forsberg. Afternoon visitors were Dean and Nanette Forsberg and Ethan and Logan Dunkin of Herington.

Ken and Rita Johnson of Delavan were Wednesday afternoon visitors of Mary Deane Peterson.

Lee and Elinor Remy, Lynley Remy, Tye and Katie spent from May 26 to May 31 in Michigan. They attended the graduation of Cydney Remy at West High School in Zeeland, Mich., and a reception for her at the home of Tim and Heather Remy in Hudsonville, Mich. There were 285 in her graduating class. While there, they attended a Memorial Day parade and church service. Cydney played in the band at both events. They were dinner guests of Burt and Lois Eucker, Grand Rapids, Mich.

Mary Deane Peterson was a Wednesday dinner guest of Wayne and Nancy Hanson.

Rodney and Seung (Sue) Gutsch of Emporia and her parents, father, Joo Hyung Ryu and mother, Jung Soon Cho of Yong-In, South Korea, were Sunday afternoon guests of Charles and Darlene Gutsch. Sue's parents are in the country for a few weeks visiting with their daughter and son-in-law in Emporia. They had visited earlier in the afternoon with Bill Gutsch at Council Grove. They toured the Gutsch home and took pictures.
