Burdick Labor Day celebration is Aug. 31, Sept. 1 years ago

Burdick will have its 36th annual Labor Day Celebration Aug. 31 and Sept 1. The theme for this year is "Round 'em up — Bring 'em in."

A photo contest has been planned. The photos must be of a cowboy or cowgirl and don't have to be recent. A male winner and a female winner will be chosen. The deadline for submitting photos is July 25. Contact Linda Peterson at 785-983-4353 or Gloria Martin at 785-983-4482 for more information.

Other events planned for Sunday include a church service at 9:30 a.m. on the tennis courts, and musical entertainment at 7:30 p.m. Winners of the cowboy/cowgirl contest will be announced during intermission. Homemade ice cream will be available.

Monday events include a two-mile fun run/walk at 8 a.m. on Main Street. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the north end of Main Street. Coffee and rolls, bake sales, arts and crafts, an inflatable moonwalk, and other kids' games will take place during the morning hours on the Legion grounds. The Centre FFA and FBLA organizations will serve a barbecue meal from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a pie auction at noon on the entertainment trailer in the park. Musical entertainment will take place during lunch time. Other afternoon events include a parade, pedal power contest, and a horseshoe contest.
