Burdick Labor Day celebration to focus on town's 120th birthday years ago

"Memories Aplenty at 120" is the theme for the 35th annual Burdick Labor Day celebration Sept. 2-3.

The event will be centered around the 120th birthday of Burdick.

A community worship service will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 2 at the tennis courts. Tallgrass Express String Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. that evening. Homemade ice cream will be available after the evening activities.

A two-mile fun run/walk kicks off the Sept. 3 events. Other events include bake sales, arts and crafts, an inflatable moonwalk, and basketball.

A Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter plans to land in the open field north of the tennis courts around 10 a.m. and be available for viewing until noon.

Centre FFA will serve lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided during the meal.

A quilt auction featuring T-shirts from Relay for Life events and past fun runs at Burdick will be held at noon on the trailer south of the Legion hall.

The parade begins at 2 p.m. followed by the pedal power competition and a horseshoe pitching contest. After the parade a remote control airplane show will take place in the open field north of the tennis courts.

Parade prizes will be announced at approximately 3 p.m.
