Burdick: Legion members take part in Memorial Day services

Colberg-Smith American Legion Post #147 provided memorial services at Burdick area cemeteries.

Those taking part in the impressive services were flag bearers, Earl Peterson and Larry Hemplemann; color guard, Harold Hovander, Roger Peterson, Demitry Evancho; leader and firing squad, Bruce Hedstrom, Lee Remy, Steve Schild, and Rolland Peterson. Post commander Charles Gutsch also accompanied them.

Bud Peterson coordinated and provided transportation for those who sounded Taps. They were Kenny Roe and Bryant Gutsch of Lincolnville.

Young people placing flowers were Josie Peterson of Lincolnville and Spencer Yenni of Lindsborg.

Pastor John Gerry joined the contingent and gave a memorial service at most of the cemeteries.

Isla Rose Nelson and Geneva Borell of Lindsborg were May 28 visitors of Irvin and Audine Strand.

C.J. and Pat Baker of Lawrence and Paul Anderson were May 28 guests of Neva Peterson.

Josie Peterson of Lincolnville spent Memorial Day weekend with Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson.

Candice Deneault of Salina took Neva Peterson May 28 to Topeka to the wedding of Laura Anderson, the late Leland Anderson's granddaughter to Ed Leinnwetter. Candice was an overnight guest of Neva's and attended church with her.

Murray and Lina Johnson of Gunter, Texas, Marie Fryover and her son Richard, and Newton and Crystal Anderson of Topeka were May 29 visitors of Charles and Darlene Gutsch. All are descendants of Paul and Lina Gutsch of Lincolnville. They were visiting area cemeteries.

Ileen Myer of Emporia was a May 29 visitor of Neva Peterson.

Evelyn and Earl Forsberg attended the annual Wilsey alumni reunion May 28 at the 4-H building at Council Grove. Evelyn graduated with the class of 1944.

Neva Peterson was a Memorial Day dinner guest of Jack and Nancy Riggin. Others there were Ruth Riggin, Jake and Kellie Tindle and Hannah of Hutchinson, O.J. and Kelly Pearl of Wamego, Galen and Janis Peterson, Gloria Martin, and Steven Collett.

Evelyn Burns, Brent and Lori Connor, and Keegan and Marci Exline of Salina were May 28 visitors of Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson. Ed and Pastor Ruth Ann Jones of Marysville were May 29 visitors.

Charles and Arlene Carlson were Memorial Day dinner guests of Kenneth and Alice Peterson of Herington. Other guests were Doris Deines and Lynn of Dodge City, Russell and Lily Hurd of Mulvane, Don and Gloria Peterson of Camdenton, Mo., Esther Wernicke of White City, and Linda and Clay Huntington.

There will be a community kitchen shower at 2 p.m. Sunday for Lucas Carlson and Julie Reichenberger at Burdick United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Everyone is invited.

Lee and Elinor Remy attended the 65th anniversary celebration May 29 for Irvin and Muriel Christiansen at Durham Community Center.

A Memorial Day barbecue and first birthday party for Rigo Salazar was held at the home of Bud and Maureen Peterson. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Caesar Salazar, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Schrader, Shae and Hunter of Wichita, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Thorton of Abilene, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Peterson of Herington, Mrs. Marvin Peterson, Eric, Scott, and Josie of Lincolnville, Roger and Rolland Peterson, Earl Peterson, Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson, and hosts, Bud and Maureen.

Ethan Forsberg was a Tuesday and Thursday dinner guest of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg. Glen Carlson was a Wednesday morning visitor.

Mr. and Mrs. Burdette Peterson visited Tuesday evening with the Wendell Petersons. Wednesday evening visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Forsberg.

Darlene Gutsch was a Thursday afternoon visitor of Dovie Rule at Herington.

Charles and Arlene Carlson were Saturday afternoon guests of Kent and Jean Brunner. Jill Brunner and Tucker of Manhattan also were visitors.

Forrest and Marie Anderson helped Gary and Karen Korte celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary which was Tuesday by going to Branson, Mo., from Thursday through Saturday. They also visited Erik Korte at Springfield, Mo.

Mike and Jane Rickenbrode, Wade and Morgan of Council Grove were Friday afternoon visitors of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg. Wade stayed to visit with his grandparents for a few days.

Area women who attended the Women of Faith conference Friday and Saturday at Kansas City were Marilyn Hageberg and granddaughter, Janine Hageberg of Hillsboro, Linda Peterson, Lois Peterson, Ruth Riggin, Alona Hedstrom and daughters, Tana Riffel and Leslie Krehbiel of Kingman, and Janet Matz and Kiki Krause of Lincolnville.

Charles and Darlene Gutsch visited Sunday afternoon with her sister, Doris and Gene Winkler at Marion.

Larry and Susie Peterson of Grandby, Colo., visited Friday evening with Neva Peterson. They were supper and overnight guests. Darrell and Candice Deneault of Salina were additional supper guests and Jack and Nancy Riggin were evening visitors. Larry and Susie left Saturday for a class reunion at Kansas State University.

Larry and Debbie Casey, Rebecca and Emily of Lincolnville were Friday evening visitors of Irvin and Audine Strand.

Evelyn Forsberg attended Morris County Republican Women's meeting Saturday morning at the courthouse at Council Grove.

Keith and Jan Olson of Salina were Sunday afternoon visitors of Lee and Elinor Remy.

Harry Schump of Herington and Wade Rickenbrode of Council Grove were Sunday dinner guests of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg.

Remember Diana and Clint Jost this week. Diana's father, Cyrus Goertz died this past week. Visitation was Friday evening and services were Saturday morning at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

Forrest and Marie Anderson were Sunday evening guests of Charles and Mona Kniebel at White City. They celebrated Mona's birthday.

Earl and Lois Peterson visited Sunday with classmate Erris Irby at Lyndon. She sends greetings to all at Burdick. They also visited Mike Peterson.
