Burdick: More than 100 attend cancer society s Relay for Life years ago

There was a crowd of 100 to 120 attending the Burdick Relay for Life Sunday noon at Burdick UM Church fellowship hall.

Burdick UMW will meet at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) at Burdick United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Devotions will be given by Shirley Miller. The lesson will be presented by Diana Jost. Refreshments will be served by Khrista Branson and Diana Jost.

Mary Deane Peterson attended a potluck dinner July 2 at the rec center at Herington. This was to celebrate the 80th birthday of Everette Burns of Salina and the 70th birthday of Gail Burns of Delavan.

Harold Diepenbrock and Clarence Jones of Herington were Saturday afternoon visitors of Lee and Elinor Remy.

July 2 visitors of Mary Deane Peterson and her houseguest, Josie Peterson of Lincolnville were Caesar and Kelli Salazar, Rigo and Mario of Wichita and Burdette and Maureen Peterson.

Tom Remy was a July 2 dinner guest of Lee and Elinor Remy.

The family of the late Rev. Harold Sandberg, former Burdick resident, gathered July 2 at Hebron Lutheran Church for the burial of their daughter's remains, Kristin Frey, who was killed in October in an auto accident in Florida. Forty-five relatives attended. The Rev. John Gerry officiated at the service. Relatives and friends attending were from Florida, Texas, Wisconsin, Washington, Virginia, Kentucky, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, and Switzerland.

There was a crowd of 50 or 60 who attended the community covered dish dinner July 3 to celebrate Independence Day at Burdick Legion shelter house. The Burdick Ball Association sponsored the event. A large crowd attended the fireworks display at the ball field after dark. Fireworks were furnished by the ball association, Pyrodex, and local people.

Mike and Jane Rickenbrode and Morgan of Council Grove were Monday evening guests of Evelyn Forsberg. Wade Rickenbrode, who had been a guest of Evelyn, returned home with them.

Friday morning visitors of Evelyn Forsberg were Harry Schump of Herington and Dean Forsberg, and Sabrina Dunkin and Logan.

Darrell and Candice Deneault of Salina were Sunday guests of Neva Peterson. They ate dinner at the Relay for Life benefit at Burdick UM Church. They celebrated Candice's birthday in the afternoon with an ice cream cake. Other guests were Kenny and Alice Peterson of Herington and Ruth Riggin.

Earl and Lois Peterson attended the 4thof July parade at Ramona.

Evelyn Forsberg attended the funeral of a cousin, Joe Schump Saturday morning at St. John Catholic Church, Herington. She visited with Harry Schump in the afternoon.

Charles and Arlene Carlson visited Kent and Jean Brunner and their guests, Jill Brunner and Tucker of Manhattan, Sunday afternoon.

Perry Gutsch of Herington was a visitor several times this week of Charles and Darlene Gutsch to help organize items for their sale.

Helping Marie Anderson celebrate her birthday Sunday night at her home were Forrest Anderson, Kenny and Alice Peterson of Herington, and Charles and Mona Kniebel of White City.

Dean Forsberg was a Sunday afternoon visitor of Evelyn Forsberg.

Galen Peterson and his son, Tye Peterson of Tampa were Friday afternoon coffee and cake guests of Neva Peterson.

Kenny and Alice Peterson of Herington were late Sunday afternoon visitors of Charles and Arlene Carlson.

Jim and Marilyn Peterson hosted a supper Saturday evening at their home. Guests were Mike Peterson and Kasey of Lyndon, Jamie Dalke, Reagan and Tyler of Hillsboro, Alfred and Darlene Sondergard of Ramona, and Earl and Lois Peterson. They all enjoyed a fireworks display after dark.

Nancy Riggin came home Saturday after surgery in Salina this past week. Remember her with your prayers as she recuperates at home.
