Burdick News: Burdick s Labor Day celebration successful

Burdick's 33rd Labor Day celebration is history and was a success. Perfect weather prevailed with no threat of rain. Temperatures ranged from 85 to 90 degrees. The co-ed tournament got underway Saturday and finished Sunday. Winners were McDonald's of Hillsboro, first and Burdick Bullets, second.

The community church service was well attended and the community choir provided excellent music. Other scheduled events filled out the weekend. The parade with more than 80 entries was one of the best. There was a tremendous response to the theme "Show Your Family Pride."

Charles and Arlene Carlson were visitors Saturday evening of Pat Miller at Herington.

Labor Day dinner guests of Forrest and Marie Anderson were Dr. and Barbara Anderson of Tulsa, Okla., Erik Korte of Springfield Mo., Floyd and Helen Anderson, David and Jennifer Mitchell of Kansas City, Mo., Erin Korte of Manhattan, LaVern Johnson of Lindsborg, Gary and Karen Korte, Ian Korte, E.T. Anderson of Emporia, Lisa Marvin of Atchison, and Mike and Joyce Downing of Raytown, Mo. Karen Korte drove Forrest's convertible for grand marshals Forrest and Marie Anderson in the parade and Gary Korte drove the pickup for the Anderson family float.

Senior citizens will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Burdick United Methodist Church. Bring a treat to go with ice cream which will be furnished.

Visitors Sunday afternoon at the home of Charles and Arlene Carlson were Glen and Barb Knuth and Dakota, Eddy Knuth, Tracy Knuth of Emporia, and Ron and Mary Jane Laudeman and Susan of White City.

Forrest and Marie Anderson went Tuesday to visit Maurine and LaVern Johnson at Lindsborg. Maurine is home from Lindsborg Community Hospital. The Andersons visited Earl Forsberg Friday morning at Morris County Hospital at Council Grove.

Hebron Lutheran WELCA will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at the church fellowship hall. Lesson leader is Carl Miller. Naomi Nelson will provide refreshments.

Jean Brunner, Melissa Brunner of Herington, Amy Hanley of Salina, and Jill Brunner and Tucker of Manhattan were visitors of Charles and Arlene Carlson after the Labor Day parade.

Kenneth and Alice Peterson of Herington visited Thursday evening with Forrest and Marie Anderson.

Gene and Jackie Hageberg, Janeen and Trey and Kody Brooks of Hillsboro were Monday guests of Gary and Marilyn Hageberg. They were on the Burdick Meat Market float in the parade.

Supper guests of Mike and Linda Carlson Monday evening were Jonnie and Cicely Karst and Rylee of Wichita, Charles and Arlene Carlson, and Herb and Teresa Tressler of Paola.

Mike and Denice Hageberg and Trevor hosted a surprise supper and party Saturday evening for Steven Hageberg's 18th birthday at Herington Country Club. Attending from the area were his grandparents, Gary and Marilyn Hageberg and Charles and Arlene Carlson.

Labor Day guests of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg were Mr. and Mrs. Eric Forsberg, Nick and Bethany of Spring Hill, Mae Forsberg of Riley, Harry Schump of Herington, Cindy Francis of Emporia, Linnea Barlow, Marvin Barlow, Mary Deane Peterson, Nanette Forsberg, Savannah and Ethan, and Joe Forsberg of Salina.

Burdick UMW will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at the church fellowship hall. Lesson leader is Karen Carlson, devotions by Kiki Krause, and refreshments will be provided by Janet Matz and Susan Carlson. Bring health kits for UMCOR and/or items for Main Street Ministries at Hillsboro.

Dean Forsberg was a Tuesday afternoon visitor of Earl and Evelyn Forsberg. Irvin and Audine Strand were evening visitors.

Twenty-five people attended the community shower Friday evening for Ashton Kerbs and Jesse Smith at Burdick UM Church fellowship hall. Ashton's special guests were her mother, Julie Kerbs, grandmother, Lucille Kerbs, Jesse's mother, Jan Smith, grandmothers, Lorene Smith and Mrs. Frank Werner of Marion, his sister, Amy Pagenkopf, and his sister-in-law, Lori Smith of Marion. Hostesses were Nancy Riggin, Janet Matz, Marilyn Hageberg, Diana Jost, Ruth Ann Carlson, Susan Carlson, and Darlene Gutsch.

Earl Forsberg was admitted Wednesday to Morris County Hospital, Council Grove. He is in room 15. Remember him with cards and prayers.

Caesar and Kelli Salazar and Rigo and Ron and Jenny Schrader, Shea and Hunter of Wichita were visitors this past Saturday evening of Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson.

John Hane and granddaughter Cynthia of Warrensburg, Mo., were Sunday visitors of Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson.

Visitors of Charles and Darlene Gutsch Monday afternoon were some Anderson family members who were interested in seeing the house that E.T. Anderson built in the fall of 1907. Visiting were Dr. Robert and Barbara Anderson of Tulsa Okla., Lisa Marvin of Atchison, E.T. Anderson of Emporia, and Forrest and Marie Anderson.

Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson attended Lutheran Home family night Saturday evening at Herington with Leroy Burton, a resident of the home and Harvey Hawkinson. Harold Williams entertained at the party. Homemade ice cream and cake were served.

Norman and Carla Engler and children were Sunday evening visitors of Neva Peterson. They brought her a plate of cookies for Grandparents' Day.

Earl and Lois Peterson took Ruth Riggin and Ella Mae Schroer of Strong City and daughter Linda Schroer of Wichita to a Schroer reunion Sunday at Scandia.

Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson and Shelly Peterson and Josie of Lincolnville went Sunday evening to a disability deer hunt at Marion Reservoir. It was sponsored by the Corps of Engineers and wildlife and parks. Soup was served.
