Burdick: Rick and Angela Basore are new residents

Burdick has a new house. Rick and Angela Basore and family are the owners of the house at 543 Main Street. The factory-built house was moved into town Tuesday and set on a full basement foundation. The Basores expect to move into the home in two weeks. We welcome them to Burdick.

A Relay for Life fund-raiser is being held at Burdick. Vote for your favorite scarecrow in Burdick only. Cost is $1 per vote. Numbered pictures of the scarecrows are available at the voting places which include Burdick Meat Market, Burdick Oil Co., Burdick Post Office, Burdick UM Church, and Hebron Lutheran Church.

Charles and Darlene Gutsch and Charles and Arlene Carlson attended an OES Friendship night Monday evening at Herington. After the meeting, a fun Halloween party was held. Refreshments were served.

Candice Deneault of Salina spent Saturday with her mother, Neva Peterson.

Josie Peterson of Lincolnville spent the weekend with Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson.

Logan Dunkin of Herington was a Tuesday and Wednesday visitor of Evelyn Forsberg. Harry Schump of Herington visited Wednesday afternoon.

Ruth Riggin and Lois Peterson were Thursday visitors of Harold and Joyce Roever.

Savannah Forsberg took Evelyn Forsberg Friday to Council Grove for a flu shot. They picked up Wade and Morgan Rickenbrode and brought them to stay Friday night and Saturday with Evelyn.

Several from our community attended the 90th birthday party Saturday for LaVerna Miller at Homestead Village fellowship hall. Some who attended were Charles and Arlene Carlson, Earl and Lois Peterson, Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson, Linda Peterson, and Myrtle Peterson.

Charles and Arlene Carlson have a new great-granddaughter, Leah Rose, born Thursday. Her parents are Nolan and Melissa Brunner of Herington. Charles and Arlene visited with Nolan, Melissa, and Leah Rose Saturday afternoon at Herington.

Mike and Jane Rickenbrode of Council Grove visited Saturday evening with Evelyn Forsberg and picked up Wade and Morgan.

Greg and Rita Strand of Overland Park were weekend guests of Irvin and Audine Strand.

Milan and Mildred Harkness of Delavan were Sunday afternoon visitors of Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson.

Adam Strand and friend, Lukas Whiteleaf of Hutchinson visited Sunday afternoon with Irvin and Audine Strand.

Charles Gutsch attended a Past Masters supper and meeting Wednesday evening at Marion City Building.

WELCA held the monthly meeting Wednesday at Hebron Lutheran Church basement. The lesson leader was Hallie Novak and hostess was Lois Peterson. Attending were Carol Miller, Gloria Martin, Jewel Swinney, Lorraine Gerry, Alona Hedstrom, Dollie Novak, Nancy Hanson, Lois Peterson, and Hallie Novak.

Dean Forsberg, Savannah and Ethan were Sunday afternoon visitors of Evelyn Forsberg.

Charles and Arlene Carlson visited Saturday afternoon with Jean Brunner at Ramona, along with Tucker Brunner of Manhattan.

Regan Lynn Hedstrom, daughter of Spencer and Becky Hedstrom of Marion, Iowa, was baptized Sunday at Hebron Lutheran Church. A dinner was held in her honor at Bruce and Alona's home. Attending were Spencer and Becky and Regan Hedstrom, Danny and Amy Shoffner, and Troy and Julia Strand, Sammie and Trey, all of Caldwell, Chad and Bonnie Otte of Ponca City, Okla., Corey and Leslie Krehbiel, Drew, Riley, and Seth of Kingman, Jeff and Tana Riffel, Callie, Kailyn, and Jensen of Lincolnville, Byron Hedstrom of Mulvane, Brad Hedstrom of Emporia, and Pastor John and Lorraine Gerry.

Burdick UMW met Wednesday evening at Burdick UM Church fellowship hall. Fourteen members were present. Kathy Beneke-Bloom presided over the meeting. Shirley Miller led devotions by reading "Reflections." The lesson, "Finding a Seat at the Table," was given by Diana Jost. Minutes and treasurer's reports were given and approved. Turkey supper and bazaar table proceeds were presented. Refreshments were served by Nancy Riggin and Diana Jost. The next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the fellowship hall.

The Corlberg-Smith American Legion and Auxiliary will hold a pancake feed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Legion hall Saturday and Nov. 12.
