Burdick: Steely enjoys 90th birthday celebrations years ago

Marilyn Hageberg and Shirley Miller helped Goldie Steely celebrate her birthday Nov. 22 with lunch out at Abilene. Steely's niece, Ella Kreskey of Salina took her to Abilene. Another niece, Janet of Salina also attended the lunch.

Several from our community and others attended Goldie Steely's 90th birthday celebration at Burdick United Methodist Church. Her son, Conrad of Hong Kong, China, hosted the event along with granddaughters, Stephanie and Andrea of California and nieces from Salina and Enterprise.

Garth Strand and family of Buhler came Thanksgiving Day to pick up Irvin and Audine Strand and take them to the home of Greg and Rita Strand and family at Overland Park. They returned home Saturday morning.

Earl and Lois Peterson and Roger Peterson traveled Nov. 22 to Grand Junction, Colo., to spend Thanksgiving. They were Thanksgiving dinner guests of Keith and Dianne Miller. Other guests were Keith Jr. and Nora Jean Miller, Matthew and Megan of Grand Junction, Colo., and Greg and Theresa Miller, Cole and J.J. of Colorado Springs, Colo. They also visited with Glen and Aileen Owens of Grand Junction. They stopped at Denver, Colo., to visit Jeff and Andye Miller, Isaac and Oliver. The Petersons returned home Tuesday.

Earl and Lois Peterson and Forrest and Marie Anderson were among those attending the open house for Dr. Bob Novak's 50th year as a veterinarian Sunday at the Novak home.

Logan Dunkin of Herington was a Tuesday and Wednesday visitor of Evelyn Forsberg. Late afternoon visitors were Marcus and Sabrina Dunkin and Savannah and Ethan Forsberg.

A senior citizen meeting is scheduled for Friday at the Legion hall.

Harry Schump of Herington and Dean Forsberg were Thursday afternoon visitors of Evelyn Forsberg. Joe Forsberg of Salina was a Thursday evening guest.

Charles Gutsch attended Herington Middle School winter vocal program Thursday evening at Hilltop Auditorium. His grandson, Anthony Gutsch was in the program and had a solo in the sixth grade part of the program.

Jane Rickenbrode, Wade and Morgan of Council Grove were Saturday dinner guests of Evelyn Forsberg. Other afternoon guests were Mike Rickenbrode and Savannah and Ethan Forsberg. Wade was a Saturday overnight guest.

Charles Gutsch accompanied Larry and Rosemary Hempleman and Rolland Peterson Wednesday to help at the Topeka veterans' gift shop.

Wendell and Mary Deane Peterson won the scarecrow contest in Burdick. Thanks to all who participated. What a great community effort.

Forrest and Marie Anderson visited Wednesday evening with their new neighbors, the Basores.
