Burdick woman sworn in as postmaster at Durham

Connie Johnson, Burdick, was sworn in Jan. 16 as Durham postmaster. The oath of office was administered by Dan Taylor, Manager of Post Office Operations, Salina.
Johnson chose a special flag to be hung in the background. It was presented this past summer by Spc. Simon Makovec to his parents, Gail and Marissa Makovec of Ramona, after it had flown in Iraq and been signed by members of Simon's squad.
This is Johnson's first assignment as a postmaster. She began working at Durham Dec. 8 and replaced Nancy Hatterman of Herington, who was assigned to the Milford post office.
Johnson was postmaster relief at Lincolnville for more than three years. Beginning in January 2006, she also worked as a rural carrier associate, substituting for Randy Kahns on the Lincolnville-Lost Springs delivery route.
Area postmasters present for the swearing-in ceremony were Roger Krause, Lincolnville, and Amy Makovec, Hope. Shelly Wirtz, postmaster relief at Lost Springs, also attended.
Former postmasters present were Tom Duggan of Tampa, Mary Deane Peterson of Burdick, and Lila Unruh of Durham.
Family members in attendance included Johnson's husband, David; their two children, Kirsten, 17, and Kodey, 12; and her parents, Wayne and Nancy Hanson, and mother-in-law, Pam Ackley, of Burdick.
