Burglars steal items from unlocked cars

Marion residents are reminded by the Marion Police Department to lock parked vehicles, especially overnight. Nine unlocked vehicles were burglarized this past week, and items of small monetary value were taken.

July 25: A follow-up investigation on a case was continued. Officers met with subjects regarding a harassment complaint. A runaway juvenile was picked up by authorities and transported to juvenile intake. Assistance was given to a sheriff's deputy with an injury accident. An individual was arrested for disorderly conduct when a fight was reported. Warnings were issued for an illegal U-turn and driving left of center. A citation was issued for exhibition of speed.

Tuesday: Several pieces of property were recovered from a theft investigation. Assistance was given to the Kansas Highway Patrol in delivering an emergency message. A warning citation was issued for driving with a restricted license. An officer worked a vehicle theft case; car was recovered in Chicago, Ill.

Wednesday: An individual met with an officer regarding a child custody case. An ambulance crew was given assistance with a call. An investigation was conducted regarding five vehicle burglaries that occurred overnight. A wallet was returned to its owner when a citizen turned it in containing identification and money.

Thursday: Assistance was given to an ambulance crew with a run at the county jail. Officers attended a meeting at Marion Police Department. A broken window in the 400 block of East Main Street was investigated. Three vehicle burglaries were investigated.

Friday: An individual was transported to the county jail. A burglary of a vehicle in the 800 block of Weldon Street was investigated.

Saturday: An investigation was conducted regarding a shoplifting case at Carlsons' Grocery. An officer assisted an ambulance crew with a run. City electrical crews were called out by an officer regarding an outage. Backup was provided to a Peabody police officer who was responding to a call of a man being shot. City crews were contacted regarding a power outage and a large flash of light near a substation on Santa Fe Street. Westar Energy crews were given assistance in locating specific areas in need of attention.

Sunday: A report was taken regarding items being taken from a vehicle the previous week.

Officers drove 852 miles, and issued one citation, three warning citations, and made two arrests.
