Business surveys planned

A survey of all businesses in Marion County are among the goals of Marion County Economic Development Secretary Teresa Huffman. She made her first report Monday to Marion County Commission.

Kansas Department of Commerce would assist Huffman with the preparation of the survey. She said she was told by KDOC that distribution, collection, and compilation of the survey could take six to nine months.

Some of the information could be used for a county resource guide, which currently is not available.

The commission approved the purchase of a computer desk with a work station for $496 from Huffman Design of Canton, Teresa Huffman's son. The desk will be located in the basement of the courthouse, in office space formerly occupied by county road and bridge personnel.

A cell phone and digital camera also will be purchased for the economic development department.

Huffman also was instructed to attend a work force summit in January. She expressed interest in attending an economic development training class in April in Blue Springs, Mo. The class is sponsored by the Heartland Institute.

Huffman requested and received a five-minute executive session to discuss personnel. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.
