Carl Pinkston

Carl R. Pinkston, 97, formerly of Cedar Point and Strong City, died June 28, 2006, at Emporia.

Born Dec. 24, 1908, at Cedar Point, he was the son of Arthur and Sophia (Lutt) Pinkston.

On July 30, 1936, he married Ethel Pauline Payton at Newton. She died in 2001.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and was a member of VFW Post #6958 at Marion and the American Legion post at Florence.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob Pinkston, Floyd "Coon" Pinkston, and John "Bat" Pinkston.

He is survived by extended family.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Strong City Cemetery with the Rev. John Hastings officiating.

Military honors by a Fort Riley honor guard will be conducted.

A memorial fund has been established with Hand in Hand Hospice.
