The Centre Cougars fell behind early in a home game Friday against Wakefield and lost 50-76.

Clean blocks, steals, and excellent rebounding by the Wakefield defense, along with missed lay-ups, kept the Cougars from having a successful inside game. Their outside scoring percentage was poor as well, contributing to their defeat.

Alfonse Klenda completed four field goals in the first quarter, but Centre was down by 10, 12-22, at the end of the quarter.

The Cougars held their own in the second quarter, continuing to lose potential shots to blocks and steals, but keeping within 10, 27-37, at halftime.

By the end of the third quarter, Centre trailed by 13 points. Three-pointers by Ben Krause and Thieen Antoszyk kept the spread from being greater.

In the middle of the fourth quarter, the Cougars seemed to lose control, playing wild and undisciplined, and turning the ball over again and again.

The Bombers continued to score from the field and the free-throw line and took home a 26-point win.

Klenda was Centre's leading scorer with 21 points. He also had five rebounds and five steals.

The junior varsity was defeated, 39-67. Josh Leach scored 12 points and Konley Harding 11 for the Cougars.

In a severe mismatch Dec. 12, Centre defeated St. Xavier 103-24 on the home court. Centre plays White City Thursday at home.
