Centre FFA members, supporters recognized

The annual FFA banquet was held Thursday at Centre High School. Chapter members were recognized for their participation in numerous activities throughout the year, and several scholarships were awarded.

The 2008-09 officers were installed. They are: Nathan Barney, president; Brian Burhoop, vice president; Cole Svoboda, secretary; Tori Marler, reporter; Ben Baker, treasurer; Tanner Brunner, sentinel; Amanda Floyd, StuCo; and Ripley Howard, historian.

The creed speaking award went to Cole Svoboda and Katie Remy.

Ryan Richmond received $100 as the leading fruit salesman. He was followed by Andy Carlson, $75, Seth Stroda, $50, and Brian Burhoop, $25.

Freshman Brian Burhoop received the Star Greenhand award. He has 12 heifers and helps his father harvest wheat and hay.

Andy Carlson was selected as Star Farmer for his work with cattle and crops on the family farm and for neighbors.

Alex Hajek was named Star in Ag Placement. He works on the family farm and in the feedlot, owns 24 cow/calf pairs, and produces feeder calves.

Nellie Hill and Julie Rziha will receive State FFA degrees May 30 at the state convention in Manhattan.

Alfonse Klenda, a 2007 graduate, will receive the State Proficiency award in Diversified Livestock Production.
