Centre FFA team finds success at state convention

Centre FFA members celebrated another successful state convention May 30-June 2 in Manhattan.

Nellie Hill took first place in prepared public speaking, qualifying her to represent Kansas at the National FFA Convention in October in Indianapolis, Ind. Kristine Jirak placed third in the same competition.

The new Centre FFA website — www.centreffa.org — won that competition.

The leadership information team finished in fourth place with team member Kristine Jirak placing fourth and Jackie Klenda fifth.

Several members received awards: Gloria Belton, state degree; Klenda, diversified livestock production placement proficiency award; Steven Hageberg, state degree and ag processing placement proficiency award.

Klenda received Orscheln and Dodge Trucks scholarships.

The chapter's scrapbook placed second. The chapter finished 16th in chapter development. They were in the silver division in student and community development.

Centre was recognized as a finalist for the Triple Crown Award for being in the top 10 percent of chapters.

The par-law team competed but did not place. Team members were Hageberg, Klenda, Tad Remy, Belton, Jirak, and Julie Rziha.

Others who attended the convention were: Alisha Barney, Nathan Barney, Andy Carlson, Jessica Deines, Amy Hajek, Kacey Hanschu, and Jo Terwilliger.

Advisers Cary Granzow and Gaea Wimmer accompanied the group.

Parents and grandparents who attended parts of the convention included Kevin and Teresa Hill; Mike and Denice Hageberg and son Trevor; Gary and Marilyn Hageberg; Val and Julie Klenda, Greg and Laura; and Gwenn and Ed Belton.
