It didn't take much for the Centre Lady Cougars to add two more to the wins column. They easily defeated Solomon Feb. 7 at home, 61-28, and St. Xavier Friday at Junction City, 91-22.

After a 13-12 first quarter against Solomon, the Lady Cougars roared ahead, leading 33-15 at halftime. They increased their lead to 50-19 at the end of the third quarter and ended the game with a 33-point win.

Centre scored 34 percent from the field compared to 35 percent by Solomon but made 25-of-73 shots, including three three-pointers, compared to 13-of-37 by Solomon.

The Lady Cougars stole the ball 37 times compared to 10 steals by Solomon.

Selena Seifert led scoring with 21 points, followed by Jackie Klenda with 10. Brittany Owens grabbed six rebounds, Teaira Turner provided five assists, and Alyssa Luna stole the ball nine times.

The junior varsity defeated Solomon, 53-21. Eleven players contributed points. Leann Pankratz led the way with 16 points, followed by Bridgette Burns with nine and Kylie Burhoop seven.

Centre vs. St. Xavier

St. Xavier was at a distinct disadvantage in their game against Centre because they fielded just five players.

Centre took an early 26-1 lead and added 27, 16, and 22 points, respectively, in the next three quarters for a whopping 69-point win.

One St. Xavier player completed three three-point shots and scored a total of 16 points.

Centre's leading scorer was Selena Seifert with 28 points. Teaira Turner added 11 points and provided 11 assists.

Megan Gutsch led in rebounds with 13 and also had eight steals.

The team's overall record stands at 15-3. They haven't suffered a loss since the preseason tournament early in December. They were scheduled to play White City Tuesday, the only league team to defeat them this season.
