Because of the need for an eighth team, Centre High School girls' junior varsity participated in the Eisenhower League tournament and got some good experience. They were ranked eighth and took seventh place.

As might be expected, they played top-seeded White City on the road in the first round and were defeated handily, 45-15.

Leann Pankratz was the Lady Cougars' top scorer with six points. She also had eight rebounds. Amy Hajek added five points and Brooke Carlson four.

The next contest, played Jan. 20 at CHS against Flint Hills Christian School, was much more competitive as the Lady Cougars lost by three points, 29-26.

Pankratz again was high-point man with 17 points. She had 12 rebounds.

Hajek scored six points, Alisha Barney four, Jessica Deines, Bridgette Burns, Gloria Belton, and Brooke Carlson two, and Justine Jennings one.

On Jan. 21, in a bid for seventh place, the team defeated St. Xavier, 54-33.

After a 6-9 start, the girls outscored St. Xavier 21-9 in the second quarter to take a big lead, 27-18.

They were outscored 10-8 in the third quarter but piled up a 19-5 fourth-quarter advantage for an easy win.

Barney led scoring with 14 points, followed by Deines and Pankratz with 13 each.

Burns, Jennings, and Hajek added four each and Carlson two.

The team is coached by Alan Stahlecker.
