After struggling all season for wins, the fourth-seeded Lady Cougars earned a respectable finish in the Eisenhower League tournament, placing third among six teams.

Preceding the tournament, they were 1-1 in league play and 2-6 overall. They defeated Solomon Jan. 14, lost to Hope Jan. 15, and defeated Wakefield Saturday.

Centre vs. Solomon

Kylie Burhoop had an outstanding game against Solomon, scoring 21 points, 11 of them in the fourth quarter, leading Centre to a 47-42 victory.

The Lady Cougars led by one point, 10-9, at halftime, on field goals by Burhoop, Leann Pankratz, and Carlye Simons.

In the second half, four Lady Cougars completed a total of five three-point shots: two by Sammi Seifert and one each by Burhoop, Shelby Deines, and Simons, boosting their lead to five points for the win.

Centre vs. Hope

The team faced top-seeded Hope in the second game of the tournament and were no match for the Lady Lions.

They trailed 15-26 at halftime and had a disastrous second half, scoring just 10 points compared to 24 by Hope. They were defeated 25-50.

None of the girls scored in double digits. Burhoop and Deines scored seven points each, Carlye Simons six, and Pankratz and Josie Peterson two each.

Centre vs. Wakefield

The Lady Cougars competed against Wakefield for third place. The Lady Bombers had just come off a close loss to White City the day before and seemed to have lost a lot of their steam.

Centre led 15-10 after one quarter on two three-pointers by Deines and two-point goals by Burhoop and Brooke Carlson.

They increased their lead 24-16 by halftime as Burhoop nailed a three, two layups, and two free throws for all of Centre's nine points.

They continued to outscore Wakefield in the second half as Burhoop remained unstoppable at the post and Simons completed a three-pointer. The result was a 48-35 win for third place.

Burhoop had another outstanding game, scoring 26 points. She was followed by Shelby Deines with eight, Carlson six, Pankratz five, and Simons three.

Hope claimed the championship by defeating White City, and Solomon placed fifth by defeating Elyria.
