Centre girls win first game of tournament

The Lady Cougars got off to a good start this week by defeating Solomon in the first game of the league tournament at Centre. It was their third win of the season. A complete report will be provided next week.

The team's second win came Jan. 7 in a makeup game at home against Word of Life, Wichita. They won, 55-33.

Scoring in double digits were Shelby Deines 14, Kylie Burhoop and Carlye Simons 11 each, and Leann Pankratz 10.

The Lady Cougars lost to Hope Jan. 8 at home, 43-27.

After being outscored 11-1, 11-6, and 11-7 in the first three quarters, they tied Hope 13-13 in the fourth, but suffered a 16-point loss.

Burhoop finished in double digits with 12 points. Deines and Pankratz scored five points each, Simons three, and Brooke Carlson one.

The girls played Herington at home Friday and lost 46-35. They trailed by 20 points after three quarters but narrowed the gap to 11 by the end of the game. Deines led scoring with 13 points.

The junior varsity lost to Herington by one point, 33-32. Josie Peterson scored 12 points, followed by Allison Shields with eight.

The Lady Cougars played a fourth game Saturday at Herington against 2A Northern Heights and were defeated, 69-36.

The junior varsity lost, 49-30. Peterson again led Centre's scoring with nine points.
