Centre Jr. High boys lose opener to Goessel

The game against Goessel at home Thursday was a tough opener for the Centre Junior High Cougars. Two players were injured and a third had an asthma attack.

The team scored touchdowns in the second and fourth quarters for a total of 14 points. Goessel scored in all four quarters for 32 points.

The first Centre touchdown came at the end of the first half on a three-yard pass from Tanner Brunner to Rustyn Kerbs. The PAT failed.

Kerbs ran 26 yards to score the second touchdown with one minute remaining in the game. Brian Burhoop ran for the extra points.

Centre rushed for 54 yards compared to 175 by Goessel. The Cougars passed for 75 yards, and Goessel passed for 42.

Centre lost 30 yards on three penalties. Goessel lost 39 on six penalties.

Kerbs was leading rusher with four carries for 37 yards. Brunner passed for 75 yards. Trevor Troutt caught one pass for a gain of 25 yards as leading receiver.

Zach Antoszyk led the defense with eight unassisted and 10 assisted tackles.
