Centre season ends

The 2007-08 football season was one which the Centre Cougars won't want to remember.

A 58-0 defeat Thursday at the hands of the 6-1 Goessel Bluebirds was the finale of a winless season.

Coach Kelly Steiner was hesitant to publicly state the factors he felt led to the 0-8 season.

Thursday's game was over at halftime after Goessel scored four touchdowns in each of the two quarters. They scored on every possession.

The Cougars couldn't stop the powerful rush of the Bluebirds, allowing 158 yards while failing to get any positive yardage. They finished with a negative 18 yards.

Centre's only success in the air was when sophomore Trevor Trout caught a pass from junior quarterback Ben Krause for a 22-yard gain. Goessel compiled 118 yards on five carries.

Junior Brandon Albrecht was the only Centre runner who had any luck on the ground. He had six carries for 10 yards.

The game was the last as Centre football players for seniors Zach Slayden, Bryant Brunner, Ethan Forsberg, Nick Cole, Tye Remy, Andy Carlson, Ryan Richmond, and Aaron Bowman.
