LETTERS:   Chinga was great years ago

To the Editor:

It seems to me, as a community we owe the Chingawassa committee a big thank you for providing such a wonderful weekend. It takes a tremendous amount of work for a full year to put something of such magnitude together.

Many of the activities involved our own children, like the Bed Rock'N' Run Race, Drum Line, Jazzy Jumpers, Bal-A-Vis-X, and the Flip Flop Shop. It made me realize how much talent is in our community and how fortunate we are to have adult leadership. The barbecue, ice cream social, and watermelon feed were sponsored by local businesses in our community. The "Grab for Cash" was fun for all who got to grab some cash. These are only a small part of the activities and games that were offered.

Opening with the Chingawassa barbecue Friday evening and closing with the all-community worship service Sunday made an outstanding weekend for everyone.

I wonder if people realize that communities much larger than ours are not able to achieve what our Chingawassa committee has achieved for eight years now?

The main attraction this year, Little River Band, seemed to be a big hit with the large crowd Saturday night. Do we realize how difficult it is to keep coming up with name bands we can afford and who will come to a small community like Marion?

Chingawassa committee, thank you for all you do for our community, for providing us with one weekend of the year that we can gather in beautiful Central Park with our family and friends to have a safe, fun time.
