CHS drama students present comic sea adventure

"Jolly Roger and the Pirate Queen," by Craig Sodaro, will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Centre High School.

The play has a cast of 20 members.

Lead characters are Tye Remy as Roger Goodman and Gloria Belton as Sarah Huffington.

With the help of his servant, played by Nick Cole, Goodman has every intention of living his life in a conventional way when he marries the wealthy Sarah Huffington.

When he overhears her telling her girlfriends, played by Kylie Burhoop and Julie Rziha, how boring he is and that she would like to marry a dashing, daring pirate, he decides to become that man.

He immediately buys a ship, recruits a crew, and even hires a pirate tutor, Long John Sliver, played by Kevin Mueller, to show him the ropes.

In return for his services, Roger must sail with his crew — played by Ida Saadon, Brooke Carlson, Aurora Salamone, Jacob Jennings, and Sammie Seifert — and Sliver to Treasure Island to pick up eight chests of gold dabloons.

Meanwhile, Sarah has gone off the deep end as well. Knowing she won't find a pirate unless she becomes one, she makes herself into the Pirate Queen and quickly earns a notorious reputation for raiding ship after ship with her crew — played by Burhoop, Rziha, Justine Jennings, and April Brooks.

Wouldn't you know it? Sarah's parents, played by Nikki Stenzel and Seth Jirak, and Captain Belvedere of the British Royal Navy, played by Stephan Kaiser, also are out on the high seas in their own ships.

As luck would have it, they all congregate on Treasure Island, which already is occupied by the retired pirate Bluebeard, played by Michael Kaiser, and his crew, played by Kholene Crawford, Ethan Forsberg, Savik Howard, and Elya Meikhanova.

That many pirates in one place are sure to make the hilarious loose cannons explode!

Melia Vinduska, Lynley Remy, and Jennifer Montgomery are the play's directors.

The stage crew is comprised of Jessica Deines, Leann Pankratz, Selena Seifert, Ryan Richmond, and Megan Gutsch.
