CHS girls make it 11 straight with victory agaisnt Lebo years ago

The Centre High School girls' basketball team added another win Friday to a long list of victories for the season by defeating Lebo at home, 57-28.

The non-league win was their 11th since Dec. 16, boosting their record to 13-3.

The Lady Cougars' only real league challenge has come from White City, a team which defeated them early in the season. Centre will travel Tuesday to White City for another matchup.

A solid first half in the game with Lebo, with scoring advantages of 17-7 and 26-9, respectively, gave Centre an insurmountable 43-16 lead at the break.

Their shooting turned cold in the second half, matching that of Lebo, but they finished with an easy 29-point win.

Selena Seifert failed to score in the second half but scored 13 points in the second quarter and was high-point man for the game with 15. She was aggressive on defense, stealing the ball eight times.

Megan Gutsch put in one of her better performances scoring 13 points including 3-of-4 free throws and 5-of-14 from the field. She provided four assists, grabbed 13 rebounds, and stole the ball five times.

Jackie Klenda had 10 rebounds and Krista Heiser eight.

The junior varsity defeated Lebo, 49-29.

Lebo failed to score in the second quarter and trailed 13-38 at the end of three quarters.

They outscored Centre 16-11 in the fourth quarter but the Lady Cougars won by 20 points.

Bridgette Burns scored 12 points, followed by Kylie Burhoop eight, and Leann Pankratz seven.

Justine Jennings added six, Alisha Barney four, Jessica Deines and Brooke Carlson three each, and Amy Hajek, Kristine Jirak, and Nellie Hill, two each.
