CHS girls win one, lose one at Wichita

The Centre High School volleyball team played in a triangular Sept. 25 at Sunrise Academy in Wichita.
They were defeated by Sunrise in two games, 9-25 and 13-25, and defeated St. Xavier in two games, 25-7 and 25-9.
The Lady Cougars did a good job of serving against Sunrise, but couldn't overcome the strength of their front line.
Centre earned few service points, three in the first game and five in the second.
Kylie Burhoop led at the net, completing 13-of-18 spike attempts, one a kill. Amy Hajek set 18-of-20 attempts.
The match-up against St. Xavier was easier. Freshman Allison Shields served for 11 points in the first game and six points in the second. Two were aces.
Sophomore Josie Peterson led in setting, completing 7-of-9 attempts.
The front line did well, with Carlye Simons completing 6-of-7 attempts, Burhoop 6-of-6, and Shelby Deines 1-of-1. Five of Simon's spikes were kills.
The team record is 9-11. They will be playing Saturday in the Eisenhower League tournament at Hope.
The junior varsity played Sunrise and lost to them in three games. They won big, 25-16, in the second game, and lost two close games of 24-26 and 22-25.
Katie Remy and Amanda Floyd each served for nine points, and Allison Shields and Tori Schill each served for seven points. Schill aced the ball three times. Rally points were 9, 14, 9.
