CHS is fourth in powerlifting competition

At least 50 schools participated in the Kansas eight-man state 1A powerlifting competition April 21 at Quivera Heights High School near Bushton.

Centre finished fourth with 81 points. Pawnee Heights placed first with 96 points, Goessel second, 95, and Argonia third, 91.

Five Centre competitors placed in the top five in their class including four from the Antoszyk family.

Senior Thieen Antoszyk, competing in the 140-weight class, finished first overall, including first in bench, 240 pounds, clean, 250, and squat, 325, for a total of 815 pounds.

Junior Steve Antoszyk, in the 123-weight class, finished second overall with a bench of 170 for first place, clean of 175 for first place, and squat of 195 for sixth place, and a total of 540.

Sophomore Adam Kristek finished third overall in the 165-weight class with a bench of 235, clean 225, and squat 340, for a total of 800.

Freshman Zach Antoszyk was fourth overall in the 132-weight class, lifting 190 in bench, 175 in clean, and 255 in squat for a total of 650.

Sophomore Canh Antoszyk finished fifth overall in the 114-pound class with a bench of 110, clean of 115, and squat of 145, for a total of 370.

Other competitors were: Nick Cole (148-weight), 12th overall; Bryant Brunner (156), 14th overall; Josh Leach (181), 14th overall; and James Weber (173), 32nd overall.
