CHS JV splits two at Marion tournament

The Centre High School junior varsity girls' basketball team played two games at the junior varsity tournament held Saturday in Marion.

They defeated Herington, 43-13, and lost to Hillsboro, 45-32.

The Lady Cougars led 17-13 at the end of the first half against Herington. Herington failed to score in the second half, while Centre improved its shooting to win by a 30-point margin.

Leann Pankratz scored 13 points, Amy Hajek 12, and Bridgette Burns 10.

Deines and Brooke Carlson compiled five rebounds each, and Burns stole the ball five times. Barney and Carlson had one block each.

The girls started out with an 8-2 lead on Hillsboro after one quarter, but were outgunned the remainder of the game to lose by 13 points.

Pankratz was the only Centre player in double digits with 10 points. Amanda Bina led Hillsboro's scoring with 17 points. Hajek was Centre's leading rebounder with five.
