The last game of the season for the Centre High School football team is at 7 a.m. Friday against Goessel. It is Parents' Night.

A quick and strong Little River team overpowered the Cougars this past Friday to claim a 28-8 victory on the Redskins' home field and deny the Cougars a chance at the playoffs.

No points were scored in the first quarter as both teams battled it out on the ground.

At 4:06 in the first quarter, Centre began a long drive from their own 7-yard line which ended with a touchdown in the second quarter.

Seth Jirak, Thieen Antosyk, and Lance Diepenbrock combined to produce four firstdowns in 13 plays, culminating in a 9-yard run by Diepenbrock for a touchdown. He also ran for the extra points, and Centre led, 8-0.

That proved to be their only lead and only points of the game.

A few minutes later, Little River scored a touchdown and PAT to tie the game 8-8.

When the Cougars were forced to punt on their next possession, the receiver ran the length of the field for a touchdown. After a successful PAT, the Redskins were out in front, 16-8.

The second half opened with Little River taking a Centre kick-off at their own 25-yard line. On the next play, the ball carrier broke through the Cougars' defensive line and ran 55 yards for another touchdown.

As the game continued, the Redskins kept quarterback Antoszyk in check, not giving him much running room. Most of Centre's passes were broken up or fell incomplete.

The Redskins scored again at 7:17 in the third quarter and led 28-8. The two sides continued to battle it out, but neither team scored again.

The Cougars carried the ball 45 times for 131 yards. Little River rushed for 289 yards on 46 carries.

Antoszyk was Centre's leading rusher with 58 yards, followed by Diepenbrock with 56. Centre's 16 yards in the air came on passes from and receptions by Antoszyk, Jirak, and Bryant Brunner.

Leading defensively were Aaron Bowman with 12 solo and three assisted tackles, Diepenbrock had 10 solo and three assisted tackles, and Jirak had six solo and 10 assisted tackles.
