CHS track: Burhoop, Kerbs win firsts at Canton-Galva

In the first track meet of the season April 1 at Canton-Galva, Centre's Kylie Burhoop placed first in girls' long jump and Rustyn Kerbs placed first in the boys' 3200-meter run.

The girls' team placed third overall, behind Moundridge and Haven, and ahead of Wichita-Independent and Canton-Galva.

Burhoop's long jump of 14 feet edged out Carlye Simon's second-place jump of 13-11.75.

Burhoop placed second and Samantha Seifert third in high jump, both with jumps of 4-2.

Josie Peterson finished second in girls' javelin with a throw of 97.

The boys' team finished in fourth place. Kerbs ran the 3200 in 11 minutes, 18.59 seconds, crossing the line just six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher from Haven.

Kerbs was the only member of the team to earn a first- or second-place finish.

Marion Invitational

Centre probably faced its toughest competition of the season Friday at the Marion invitational track meet — a 1A facing 2A, 3A, 4A, and 5A schools.

The top finisher for Centre was senior Hannah Kemble, who placed third in the girls' shot put with a throw of 31-7.25. Sophomore Josie Peterson finished in sixth place in the girls' discus with a throw of 88-2.

A team of Samantha Seifert, Carlye Simons, Josie Peterson, and Kylie Burhoop finished sixth in the 4x100m relay.

The girls' team finished in ninth place.

No one among the boys' team placed in the top six in any event. Freshman Rustyn Kerbs came close, finishing seventh in the boys' 1600m run in 5:08.74.

Centre High School hosted a track meet Tuesday at Marion.
