The track program at Centre High School is fielding the same number of students for the 2008 season as it did in 2007. The 22 athletes include 14 boys and eight girls.

The two athletes who qualified for the 2007 state track meet graduated in May. Both were boys, but a strong group of six freshmen boys — Brian Burhoop, Jacob Jirak, Cole Svoboda, Rustyn Kerbs, Casey Kristek, Ben Baker, and Jesse Kopietz — bolster the chances for a good showing by the 2008 boys' team, as well as individually.

The five returning letterwinners are girls. They are seniors Kylie Burhoop and Nellie Hill and sophomores Carlye Simons, Samantha Seifert, and Josie Peterson.

Because of the low numbers, eight in all, Coach Stan Wiles said it will be difficult for the girls to score high as a team, but he expects the letterwinners to show improvement and do well individually.

Other students participating in track are: seniors, Michael Kaiser, Kristine Jirak, Hannah Kemble, and Bermet Zhumakadyr kyzy; juniors Brandon Albrecht, Savik Howard, and Adam Kristek; sophomores Dallas Rosenow, Trevor Troutt, and manager Stephen Kaiser.

Wiles is assisted by Alan Stahlecker.
