Church steps up to coordinate Community Thanksgiving Dinner

There will be a Community Thanksgiving Dinner after all, with proceeds to benefit the Community Christmas Fund.

Members of Valley United Methodist Church of Marion will coordinate the event and are asking other churches and residents to assist.

Previously, Marion Ministerial Alliance coordinated the committee that planned the dinner but decided this year there were not enough volunteers to facilitate it.

The dinner will be held, as in previous years, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, at Marion Middle School commons area.

Volunteers are needed to provide Jell-O salads, pies, and bake turkeys prior to the dinner.

On Thanksgiving Day, volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve the meal, deliver meals to the elderly, and cleanup afterward.

Reservations need to be made by Monday by calling Marion Chamber of Commerce at (620) 382-3425. Reservations also should be made with the chamber for those meals to be delivered. Reservations are not a requirement but are appreciated.

The meal is free but donations will be accepted.

A traditional meal of turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, Jell-o salad, green beans, pie, roll, and drink will be served.

Sign-up sheets have been delivered to the churches in the area.
