Cities, county discuss road responsibilities

A special meeting will be at 8 a.m. Monday between city officials and Marion County Commission to discuss connecting links.

The commission's regular meeting will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday for payday and other business.

In other business:

— County clerk Carol Maggard informed the commission that the P.H. Meehan House at Tampa is being considered for historical designation by the Kansas State Historical Society.

— Two interlocal agreements were finalized between two cities (individually) and the county. Tampa and Ramona each signed separate agreements with the county for assistance in enforcing regulations.

Maggard said Lincolnville's attorney had issues with the agreement and had not signed it.

— Rose Funk of Lehigh has been hired as the deputy treasurer.

— The commission approved permit books and mirror hangers to be used by Marion County Park and Lake.

Western Associates of Marion had the low bid of $2.47 per book for 200 books, and Hoch Publishing Company of Marion had the low bid of 11 cents per mirror hanger for 2,000 hangers. The mirror hangers will identify those who have paid to camp at the lake.

Other bids were from Hoch Publishing Company for $2.70 per permit book, Baker Brothers of Hillsboro, $2.62 per book, and 16.37 cents per mirror hanger. Western Associates also presented a bid of 22.29 cents per mirror hanger.

— The commission will consider whether to purchase two prototype Caterpillar motorgraders that have been used by the county for the past year as part of a testing program for Foley Equipment. Options were discussed that included a lease-purchase and outright purchase.

— Acting road and bridge supervisor Tom Holub reported he had met with the section workers regarding fuel conservation. Some ideas and concerns were discussed.

— Lake superintendent Steve Hudson requested and received a 10-minute executive session to discuss personnel. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

— Commissioner Dan Holub requested and received a five-minute executive session to discuss personnel with county clerk Carol Maggard in attendance. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.
