City offered option in purchasing building

The City of Lincolnville may purchase the former Lincolnville Clinic building through a lease-purchase agreement.

Lincolnville city leaders attended a special meeting Wednesday of Marion County Hospital District #1 when sealed bids were opened for the clinic building located in Lincolnville.

A bid of $8,500 from the City of Lincolnville was the only bid received by the district.

An appraised value of $18,900 was determined by an independent appraiser and the board had the authority to accept or reject all bids.

Since the bid was less than half the appraised value, the board rejected the bid.

Also in attendance at the meeting were Victor Burns, mayor of Lincolnville and Jane Pigorsch, Lincolnville city clerk.

The board was told the city would like to see the building be used as a clinic but since that wasn't an option, the city was interested in purchasing the building to be used as city hall.

District chairman Gene Winkler said the board had to protect the interest of taxpayers and could not sell the building that much below the appraised value.

Burns said he understood because the city of Lincolnville wanted public funds used responsibly.

Board member Greg Bowers said he would be agreeable to a lease-purchase agreement. The board approved an agreement with a purchase price of $14,000.

The offer will be discussed by Lincolnville City Council and will notify the hospital board with a decision.

In other business, the board approved accounts payable in the amount of $71,559.
