City to cleanup burned house site
Staff reporter
Time has run out for Ron Cotton, owner of property at 127 Billings Street, Marion.
Marion City Council held a public hearing Monday evening to discuss property.
City inspector Marty Fredrickson said he inspected the property Monday and determined there had been no activity or changes since the structure burned last summer.
City attorney Dan Baldwin told the council it could give Cotton more time or it could take action to have the property cleaned up.
The city holds $3,000 of the insurance proceeds from the property for the purpose of cleaning up the burned structure.
Later in the regular meeting, the council determined Cotton had had sufficient time to clean up the property and approved the clean up process. Clean up work is to begin by March 6.
A second hearing will be held April 23 for a second dilapidated structure on the property that was not damaged in the house fire but has become a public nuisance.
